I am thrilled to have finally bought a Spyder. It's a brand new 2014 ST-S SE5 in Cognac.
It was worth waiting for and the long drive to trailer home to Nashville from Lithgow Motorsports in IL.
Ive been on Spyderlovers for several years now, but am no longer an outsider or wannabe!
Much thanks to Phil at Lithgow Motorsports (family owned business) for a great experience with the purchase and paperwork. Integrity and honesty are 2 words that come to mind when I think of my dealings with him. I only wish Nashville was closer so I could go there for service and accessories.
I have been out about once a day, each trip going a little farther and a little faster. I'm still very timid and overly cautious, as I am new to motorcycling and the Spyder, but it's awesome so far.
I have read and re read the Dos and Donts for new owners, and have to admit that I realize I'm squeezing the handlebars very tightly without even knowing it until I feel a hand cramp kicking in.
Any other important tips from the veterans? Can I wash it like washing a car, with a garden house and car wash soap?

RYDE.... nothing builds comfort and confidence like lots of miles - and don't be afraid of varied weather conditions. The Spyder handles amazing in even very bad weather
Nice choice... your going to love it more with each ryde....find the less traveled roads to practice and you will get comfortable quickly... sorry you waited so long.. I'm sorry I did....

Now it's time for the fun o REALLY get started!
Doc is right: Keep on riding it! You'll build confidence and familiarity, with each time that your butt goes in the saddle!
You can wash it like a car but go easy on the water pressure and keep the electronics dry.

I believe the "timid" live longer. Also, you cannot be overly cautious. You need to suspect EVERY other vehicle on the road is looking to kill you. They obviously are not, but that defensive mindset may save your life. I don't think this limits your fun, but will certainly expand your skills. Every spyder has more performance than 98% of the ryders have skill. Stay safe. I believe as long as you don't pressure force water into your new ryde, you are going to be just fine.

I always ride as if every vehicle around is being driven by a person who is:
Drunk
Hung-over
Just dropped a full coffee cup into their lap
Is on a cellphone
Is texting
Is asleep
Is changing the radio station
Just broke up with a guy who looks just like me
Thinks that I got their daughter pregnant
Is sure that I'm the who broke up his marriage.

You have impeccable taste in picking the best 2014 color! Welcome to the club!
Bob Denman is more courtly than I. Remember, there is someone out there on the road trying to kill you. You'll get more comfortable as you pile on the miles but don't ever forget the second sentence.

otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
