Post 2015 Spyder RTS Knocks hard when I put it in reverse.

Hi I am wondering whether anyone else on this forum experience a hard knock when they put their Spyder into reverse. My car had the same problem and I was told the universal joint was going bad. I don't pretend to be a mechanic. I was told by the service department that the knock is normal.

Mine does it every morning when I back out of the garage. It often does it going into 1st from neutral, but going into 1st from reverse is smooth as silk. I've seen other threads that indicate that it is not uncommon. My previous Beemers had a pretty good clunk going into 1st also.

When the engine is cold, shifting into reverse the thunk is louder. This is a normal sound.

A typical "normal" situation. Upon start up when is cold, a loud clunk seems to come from that first shift--whether it be into first or into reverse. It usually quiets down after the is warmed up.

It goes away once the Spyder is warmed up and the RPM goes down. Still a little clunk, but not quite as bad.

Yup, this is one time the service tech is not feeding you a line. Maybe the only time?

If you can wait just a little bit before shifting, the revs will go down a little and the thunk will be less. A few bips on the throttle will help lower the revs also. This is a concern to me also.

Just wondering, everyone says that this is normal, and I can accept that, however...

Is it good? It sure seems like something is hitting something else hard. Does anyone actually know what is happening when it thunks?

    Call me mechanically challenged...
