Default Dealer will not install car tire

My dealer will not install the Kumo car tire. He said it heats up and rubs on fender. Sounds like a bad excuse to me. I told him that on a internet forum, many people have done it with great success. Plus he says it is an hour and half labor charge to do any rear tire. Is that true 1-1/2 hours labor.
    Thanks Kenn

I had a local custom trike builder replace my rear tire with a Kumho. He watched Lamont's video on how to do it without messing with belt tension, then pulled the old tire, mounted and balanced the new one, and had it back on in just under an hour. I don't know why a dealer would take a longer time . . . unless he includes the belt tensioning process.

I didn't use my dealer for this because he is in another state which has a state regulation regarding motorcycle tires on motorcycles . . .

Your dealer will not install your rear tire because he does not want to assume any liability. Some dealers in our area will not install aftermarket tires, dealers say its a liability issue.

Shop around a little bit; you'll find a dealer who'll be willing to mount it.

    Default Many....

Many if not most will not install tires that are not marked for motorcycle use. A lot of speculation as to why but the common one is the liability and they are brp dealers and brp does not recommend it. If something should go wrong brp will not cover you then it falls on the dealer. The heating up and rubbing the fender.. thats a good one....only if you get a real large tire thats not happening...

Another reason to love my dealer. When I needed a tire they gave me the option for a Kumho.

As already mentioned by the BlueKnight...find an independent shop with quality service and customer service. If not, maybe a shop that does choppers or similar would be willing to work with you on it. There are some great people in the motorcycle industry and not all are dealerships.

It's a bottom line money issue. They don't carry car tires so can't stiff you for the cost of the tire.

My Dealer installed with a disclaimer statement on the bill - Customer supplied tire, not recommended by BRP. Or something to that nature......

Take the wheel off yourself. It's not that difficult. Take it to a tire shop and most will do it. And for a lot less than what the dealer will charge.

My son has a brand new Kawasaki Ninja and it got a nail in the front tire. I went to every tire dealer and every motorcycle dealer and no one would repair it.
The Motorcycle dealers would not do it for liability reasons and the tire dealers did not have the equipment to do a mount a motorcycle tire.
What I did was get the dealer to unmount and mount the tire and I took the tire to the tire shop for the repair. I got the whole thing done for under 40.00
Sometimes you have to just figure your way around these problems to get things done.

I doubt anyone should have a problem with this. They may not like it or believe it, but looking out for yourself and your business is 100% understandable.

when i bought my hand brake my dealer wouldn't even install that, but i installed it and it was easy. when i was upstate and stopped in at arctic adventures they said they will install whatever you wanted to install and they just have a waiver to sign saying they are not responsible for any problems, if all dealers did this i wouldn't have a problem signing it
