Default Too Good to be True?

Usually if something seems too good to be true, it isn't true... or perhaps there is so much extra baggage you wish it hadn't come true!

    So... what's wrong here?

    I'd like a 2015 RT special in either silver/black or red/black.

Our great local dealer... Lifestyles in Mount Vernon says:
2015 Can-Am Spyder RT-S Special Series 6-Speed Semi-Automatic (SE6) -$26249 excluding dealer set up, taxes, title, freight and licensing.

    Or... there is this deal:

    2015 Can-AmŪ SpyderŪ RT-S Special Series 6-Speed Semi-Automatic (SE6)

    FREIGHT & SET UP INCLUDED!!!
    $22,999.00

Hop on a plane, visit our dealership, and ride your new Spyder home.

So... I like to support my local dealer, but.... this is a BIG difference.
    Any thoughts?

    Default Demo price?

Confirm the name of the person you are dealing, and his level of authority. This price does not sound apples to apples to me. Print a verifying e-mail and have it in your pocket when you get to the dealer. My local dealers would not budge on price. I drove 2 hours to get a 2015 RT-S in red for $24,500. That's about 4k lower than my local dealers. Even after I had a confirmed price there was a $120 processing fee. I didn't make a big deal out of it. You should expect a little something to happen as well.
    Keep us posted.

They pay the flight to O'Hare and freight & set up included for 22,999?

Buy the bike. Take the money & run. Hint, Hint, Hint

Drive North--do the Black Hills, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, etc.

Do you need any more incentive?

I would show the deal to the local dealer and give them a chance to match it though. The flight should be worth about $500.

And like the post above--get it in writing from the sales manager.

Seems your great local dealer is way over priced. Over the years I've noticed a huge difference in actual retail prices posted on here. It does seem BRP and dealers are giving big discounts a little earlier this year to clear out inventory, makes me wonder if BRP has some big changes planned for the 2016 model.

There are definitely some great deals out there. I'm taking possession of a brand new 2014 RT-S next week, for $17,999. It's worth a 5-1/2 hour drive for a deal like that.

So if your local dealer can't match a deal like that, I say go for it before someone else does.

    Good luck!

Question: How valuable is it to you; to support your local dealer?
If you have a problem with the bike, or even just want it serviced; where are you going to take it?
What if you need to have warranty work done?
Or a BUDS hook-up for a software update?

It's your money; it's your dance!

In that case; you need to find a dealer that you are comfortable in supporting...

Perhaps I am just VERY fortunate; I have five dealers within 60 miles of me.
I have the true luxury of choice...

I agree that we need to support our local dealer. But for some of us, $8,000 is a lot of money, so we need to go where the best deal is. The local dealer service department will still get our service business. There is more money by servicing the bike in the long run than the upfront sale.

I believe any dealer could service a Spyder not just the one you bought it from. I moved across the country and my new dealer has taken care of me on many things.

    That money is ALWAYS important...
But to let it be the sole determining factor in where the purchase is made: rather shortsighted...

I ended up buying locally at Lifestyles Honda in Mt. Vernon. A 100 miles from my house. When I started looking for the best price, I called 3 in state dealers and two out of state. As the customer, I will also look for the best price, but service has to back up the good price. One in state and one out of state never bother to call me back with an out the door price. (I easily marked them off my list) The 3 remaining dealers I bargained between them for the best price. After I made my choice, Kurt at Lifestyles Honda called me and counter-offered my out of state and the lowest price. That's why I bought mine from Lifestyles Honda.

Is there proper etiquette here? A dealer wouldn't sell below cost, right? How can a dealer discount a current model $7550? Are there hidden rebates to dealers? More questions than answers, it's just frustrating to see such a discrepancy from dealer to dealer, money is money.

You are VERY LUCKY to have so many from which to choose! Here in the Phoenix and Tucson area, there are only two dealers, both well known scoundrels. I went 140 miles north to buy mine so I could be treated fairly. I can get service here locally regardless of where I purchased. I have never heard of only being able to take your bike to where you bought it.

Damn, that's worth driving or flying to purchase. I would definitely buy that over a 2015 any day, because there's no difference. I hate buyer's remorse but damn I should have waited lol.

Wherever you go, get a written out the door price, then NO surprises. Of course, compare the options/model/warranty/etc

Well the deal is done. We were able to agree upon a fair price and I kept my purchase local, I couldn't be happier. I should have my new black and red baby home for the weekend.

The Spyder is probably the most " marked up " vehicle being sold today !!!!!....If you knew what the dealer actually paid BRP for the Spyder you bought you would A.----CRY, B.C. return and shoot someone.....and I'm not making this up................Mike

for that difference ... I would fly & buy... save a bunch... and have a interesting/fun trip home... maybe if more folks would buy elsewhere, local dealers would take notice and quit trying to screw over local buyers...

All vehicles take a major financial hit in the first year. But NADA or KBB etc. pricing is not based on what the vehicle cost the dealer originally !!!........It is based on the .....original M.S.R.P.,, In an above post someone said they couldn't believe how the Dealer could possibly be making any money on a Spyder that was discounted $ 7,550 ............Well I'll bet that dealer still made $ 2,000 or more on the sale !!!!!...................Mike
