Buying a new engine?
Anyone have information or how you would go about buying a new 998 Engine?
Not that I need to or anything I just want to know.
I have seen posts were people say you can and that its' like $3K or so.
Doing some research I cannot find any factual information as to if it is even true or not!
Thanks,
Bob

According to the local dealership the engine is around $6000, i found out when my 99 blew up and was not sure the insurance was going to step up to the plate, i was ready to order one but the insurance took care of it, totaled it and gave me enough money to buy another one

Hi Bob,
I know that I've seen them pop up on EBay from time to time...
But as far as the pricing:

docdoru would know how much and how to order, since he replaced his engine on his own dime.

docdoru hasn't been on here in quite a while; but, his buddy was on here recently. Try a P.M. to effgjamis (Forrest); he'd probably get in touch with doc for you. You'll get the straight scoop from docdoru.

You can buy a 327 crate engine for 5 grand. 7 grand for two pistons seems a little steep.

EXACTLY! For that I would just keep it as a parts machine or trade it as is and get every dime out of it that I can.

It's a pretty easy motor to rebuild. Replacement parts are easy and fairly inexpensive to come by. Quite a few aftermarket upgrades too. There really isn't a reason to buy a full motor.

economics of scale. Can Am has barely sold 100,000 units, how many 327's do you suppose are out there,1000,000 2,000,000 10,000,000.Anyway there is a lot more demand for 327's then 990's.
