Don't know about the triple but would think it is. Hopefully someone with a 1330 can check. The F3 should have a clear view ....

Got back under the bike in better lighting conditions today and still no luck. The VIN isn't on the frame on the 2015 although it may be covered by plastic somewhere.

Can you scan the relevant page in the owners' manual and post it here?

What a great community!
Pete in response to your question the image can be found here:
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/s...687-VIN-Number
Bob posted it up in another thread about VIN in Jan of 2017.
I also reached out to PapaHotel who has a brand new granddaughter and still stuck his head under the bike to help me out. Here is is response:
"Found it, but this won't be easy. Stick your head behind the drivers side (left) tire. look between the upper/lower A-arms (I.E. about 10 inches above the ground.) Look towards the front, see the radiator. Now look to the inboard side of the radiator. It is there, inscribed into the frame. And now we now why they also put a copy on the swing arm... You might have to pull the tire or a panel to get a camera in there, or if you have a friend with a borescope (also now available for your cell phone for cheap), he might be able to document the thing with out too much trouble."
So since I'm not pulling the bike apart I'm hoping CHP will have whatever is necessary to see what they need to see. I did look where he said and yes there are numbers inscribed into the frame but I can't see more than 3 of them Will follow up after that appointment in 2 weeks.
Just want to say this is a great group and I appreciate all your help!
UPDATE: Just spoke to CHP. They only need to validate VIN in one place while DMV requires 2. May be easier for Calif. folks to just start there.

Thank you CHiP!
Got to CHiP 20 mins early and a very friendly officer took care of the vin and engine number inspection in about 10 mins. Should have gone there in the first place so take note anyone following in my footsteps.
I did take a drill driver with me though to get at engine number easily which he appreciated. Thanks to everyone here who contributed to teaching me where to and how to do that. Now I’m a bit more comfortable pulling Tupperware as a result.
One final trip to DMV to go to get the new paperwork processed and a Ca plate.

Spent many hours trying to find the stamped VIN on my 2015 RTS. In case anyone else finds this thread via search, the location is different from the one shown for the 2014. To find the VIN, turn the handlebars all the way left and go the right side of the bike. There are two bars that come out from the bike to connect to the right wheel, one on top of the other. Look between them (you’ll need to crouch down) all the way into the center of the bike. Use a flashlight and look for a vertical metal bar (mine was black), the number is stamped sideways on that vertical bar. It may well be covered in dirt, and the writing is quite small (maybe 3/8” tall).
Hope this helps someone!

Check your motorcycle insurance ID card for the VIN number, it is listed on there.
