Post What is the average time to complete the 3000 mile break in period.

Hi all, I am looking to find out what is the average time Spyde Riders take to complete the 3000 mile break in period. I am trying to average about 50 miles a day but have not been to successful due to the weather its been raining or just to hot to ride. I had planned to complete the 3000 miles in 60-90 days. How long did it take you to complete 3000 mile break in period? Please let me know if I am overdoing it or should I take more time such as 6 months to complete the 3000 miles. I normally averaged about 3000-4000 miles per riding season on my 2 wheeled motorcycles but since I am retired I want to ride more often.

Please provide your input. Thanks in advance.

Obviously it depends on how much you ride

Took me 4 months - which is a bit longer then normal as I normally put on 1000/month.

I have put 3000 miles on in a week on a motorcycle several times
it all depends on how much you ride.

    Me too.
Mine goes in tomorrow. I've been doing more short/errand runs on the bike, but have not done my usual long day runs.

It took me a while. Bought new 2014 in November. Due to colder and weter Winter and Spring, had my 3000 mile service done the 1st part of May. Took me less than a month now in riding season to put on over 2000 miles.

Don't try to include Ann in your calculations...

    Default everyone is different

It took me 2 months, but that was winter time and we had some snow, so I couldn't ride consistently. If I go for a ride, I pretty much leave the house and attempt to get in at least 100 miles. Sometimes I do more, sometimes I do less, but if it's less I usually feel like I didn't get in a "real" ride.

First, look at the "break in" project as a fun thing, and an opportunity to go riding a lot. Getting to know and enjoy your new machine.

You do not have to do anything special. The manual does say to take it easy on the tires and brakes the first 300 miles or so.

I also recommend not redlining your new early on. That's just me and there are also those that advocate to ride it like you stole it. However, they are not the ones who will have to live with a screwed up were that to happen.

Normal riding will get you there quickly. Some of us put more miles on than others. In 9 months of riding my 2014 RT, I have logged almost 15,000 miles now. There are others who are way ahead of me. I told Ann in a previous post that the advantage here is that my RT has fewer miles on it.

    Cool

Got my F3-S on Good Friday and have 1800 miles on the odo. So I'm thinking that late July to mid-August for my
    3000 mile service.

It took me 109 days but I could have easily done it in 90 or less except for my volunteer work for the Greedy Geezers Tax Service. Dec & Jan are busy study and teach time.

I don't think there is an "average" time . . . it depends on so many things. For example, it took me one year and nine months to go 10,000 miles . . . and I rode 5,390 in the next three weeks . . .

Leaving Friday for another multi-day ryde . . . not near as far, though! Just through Monday! Are you going to be at Spyder Quest or Spyder Odyssey, Bob? We need to meet!

No set answer. I have had my Spyder 7 weeks and am at 4200 miles. My biggest concern is I haven't been able to get it in for 3000mile service. Just ride and the miles come. Don't plan it.

Two and a half months for me. I did have a number of days with inclement weather, so it could have been quicker. I'll ride as long as there isn't ice on the road or raining for the ride to work and less than a 40% chance of rain for the ride home from work.

It probably took me a couple of weeks. It was winter so I was slacking a bit. I'm still averaging 100 miles per day every day, 365 days per year.

    Default Geez...

I guess I need to log some miles... It's been since July of 2014 and I still only have 2300 miles! The way I'm going, I will be putting my baby in the shop around August!

That's it!!! I'm riding to work today... A whopping 25 miles round trip, lol.
