Cool NEW REAR TIRE AFTER ONLY 8002 MILES!

Replaced my rear tire on my RT LIM. last week with a YOKOHOMA S-DRIVE from Discount Tire. Took wheel off of machine myself and took to POMP's tire, they could mount but not balance. So off to the SPYDER dealer I go. 4 hours later(when they could work me in) I'm $88.00 leaner(mt./bal./disposal/tax), so we will see what kind of mileage we can get out of it. Question- has anyone had any kind of bearing issues on the 2014 machines?? When I had wheel off, checked for roughness/end play, all seemed to roll smoothly.Did not notice anything unusual. Ride safe all!!

Some of the rear tires on the 2014's only lasted 4,000 miles. You did well.

$88.00 to mount and balance when you already had it off the machine?

5600 miles on mine, when it needed replacing.
Bearings: I think that they used to say, 20,000 miles, and then replace them...
But I don't remember the source of that tidbit...

6,000 on the rear when I changed it. Fronts have 17,000 on them and are still fine. $88 was a bit much on a tire changeout. Guess that they figured if they couldn't sell you another crappy tire, they'd make it in labor. Still doesn't make it right though...

I got 6,800 on my first one; maybe could have gotten more as I saw some at Spyderfest that were worse than mine and I still had to get 900 more out of it to make it home. Perhaps overly cautions about hydroplaning risk, but it's my tail on the line.

$88.00 for mount, balance, disposal & tax is absurd... I would never step in that "stealership" again..

I got 12K out of my rear tire but it's a 2011 RTS so it was a older Kenda.

I too went with the Yokohama S drive. Loving it so far!

As for the bearings, 2014 I do not believe changed anything with the rear tire setup over other RT's. I also just did a feel and visual of my rear bearings and seals and all was good. Since I am sure you and I will both be getting more than 12K out of this Yoko, I am going to check my bearings again at 24K or maybe even earlier when I go to do the brakes.

First rear tire, soft compound CRAPENDER changed at 3,000 miles. Might have been good for another 2,000. Kumho replacement, $139 installed by Netzley Tire. Stealer wanted $280 installed. Tom

I've never gotten over 7,000 off a rear tire.
Any tire shop should be able to mount the rear.... No need to balance... Just out some Ride-On in it and it will self balance.
Fronts do a bit better... Maybe 12-15k before replacing.

    Default REAR TIRE CHANGE

Yes I thought $88.00 for the mount&bal.was high but I went to a dealer that was closer than the one I bought the machine from which would not mount a car tire on the rim even if I took it off the machine and took it to them, still wanted $75.00 +,sooooo I had to do as I did for now. The fronts, when they wear out will have Conti. procontacts on them which I bought at the same time as the rear, and POMP'S will be able to do the complete deal if I bring the weels to them at $17.00 ea. The fronts look about 1/2 wore so I hope to get the rest of the riding season out of them. My YOKO size was the 205/55R15 and it brought the speedo 1 mph closer to the GPS reading(GPS-60/speedo=61mph) The Conti's (155/60R15) are the same tread pattern that's on our '13 FORD Escape(quite abit wider on the car) and I feel that they work very well in wet weather,so I think all will be safe and that's the main thing. 95% of time the machine is riden 2-up and 20% of that was with a trailer. RIDE SAFE ALL!!

Cracks me up how Spyder peeps complain about 'only' getting 8,000 miles off a rear tire. On many motorcycles that would be considered doing really well.

    Default Flat rate labor charges

I think $88-90 is about the standard flat rate for mounting & balancing a rear tire. That is what the shop I go to charges whether it takes an hour or half that. They also mount car tires.
