Just Curious
I have seen several posters that state they change their filter every other oil change. When I was growing up and learning maintenance on cars, my dad taught me to ALWAYS change the filter when you change the oil. I'm curious as to why some of you do not. Surely the cost of a Spyder filter isn't that high to warrant waiting. I'm not judging anyone here. Just curious as to why.

But if you are testing your oil, you can determine if skipping a filter change is do-able. I just like knowing I have a nice, new, fresh filter in there. It's part of getting as much of the old oil out as possible and starting with a clean slate.
Overkill? Maybe. But it's inexpensive and worth it to me.

I am one of the every-others and I will never let the bike go over 9,000 miles without doing the filter also. I think of the drain and fill and inexpensive and quick way to make sure the oil has not sheared. When my 40 wt oil has sheared down into the 20's in 4,000 miles, that gives me concern. As long as we maintain what BRP tells us to do, the rest really comes down to personal preference.

We all have our thoughts and opinions about oil/oils. Like Romney put it, "47%" will never be convinced to even consider changing...I guess I am one of those. At 3,000 on our first Spyder, a 2008 GS SE5, I started using Royal Purple 10W40 Synthetic Automotive and have never looked back. I traded the 2008 with 42,000 trouble free miles and now have 55,000 miles on our 2010RT SM5 which has been on Royal Purple since 700 miles. Last oil change at 50,000 miles (I always change my own oil at 5000 miles) I started using the K & N filters and will now change the oil every 10,000 miles. Ride more and worry less!
2008 GS SE5 in 2008
Traded at 43,000 miles for a left over
2010 RT SM5 in 2011
Traded at 57,000 for a left over
2014 RTS SE6 in 2015, which has 35,000 miles
Oct 19th, 2017, totaled 2014 RT while killing a Javaline
Dec 12th, 2017 drove a 2017 F3L home. What an awesome machine!
Never had any breakdown stranded issues.

I wish K&N would make oil filters for a 2014 RT with the 1330ACE engine..
