    Default Ready to Buy

OK folks. Been patiently listening and learning for about 6 months now. About to pull the trigger. Choice is between 13 and14 RS SE. I have been able to get the price on the 13 way down but I told him he will have to get BRP to swap out side panels to address the heat/fuel issue. Is there anything else I知 missing? I remember talk awhile back about ignition issues and a list of serial numbers to check. Did that include the 13 RS?

What about Laser Alignment. Do folks lean towards one if they have issues or just because it really makes a difference? Found someone in NH that has good reviews. Love this site!

The dealer should have all the updates done on the 13, but make sure you ask. Have the new panels installed before picking it up is a great idea. As for laser alignment I would recommend it as very few Spyders come form the factory correctly aligned.

Congrats on your new Spyder (which ever one you get) and please post pictures when you get it.

    Default You got it..!!

the dealers should have all the recalls etc done but check the panels. Ignition was not an issue on the RS so if they are getting a good price go for it....

What is the price? I have a 2014 RT limited for sale, 1330 engine...might be able to get close to price.

It sounds like you have done due diligence. Yes, on the new panels for the 2013. Get them before you drive off.

    Post some pictures.

I didn't know there were swaps for the RS panels, I only thought that pertained to the ST. I haven't heard anything about the 13 RS being any hotter than any of the other years.

Sounds like an updated 13 is the best deal.

The RS 2013 was the model where they went to having a separate CAT under the bike, the earlier models had the CAT built into the exhaust. I have heard that this did cause some increase in heat, though not to the extent of other models.

Unfortunately the '2013 Spyders run hot' view has tainted the RS even though other models where the ones most affected. The RS 2014 came out with the new vented panels, I suspect this was to allay comments on heat issues.

One Australian RS 2013 owner did comment on how after fitting the new panels they found theirs ran 1 bar lower on the temp gauge - however they said they also had more noise and buffeting than before.

Default Soon to be an owner

My wife and I did some initial paperwork on a 2010 RT-S last week. It looks like it's gonna be a done deal by the end of this coming week. I'm pretty excited as she is as well. So, I've been a lurker here for several months, but I really don't see much on the 2010 RT. The dealer says all the updates have been done on it. Was there anything that should jump out at me with this model?

We have 46K mostly trouble free miles on our 2010 RT A&C. Replaced two stock rear shocks before switching to Elka. Also had the DPS unit replaced under the BEST extended warranty.

We have a 2010 RT SM5 BareBone. The major issue was a bad Throttle Body, which was warranted, but never left me stranded before it got changed. I learned how to make it work, with patience. Also had the muffler replaced under warranty...baffle issues. Hums like a humming bird. Almost forgot...mileage approaching 55,000 miles all put on by me.

Default Price is only one consideration, don't ignore the performance

I traded my 2013 RT LTD with only 3300 miles for a 2014 RT LTD and even though it probably cost me $8000 I do not regret the purchase. Certainly the heat was a big motivation but the biggest difference is the ride quality. On the 2013 I always felt like it needed the 6th gear. I got used to the high rpm's but it did not feel natural.

Make sure you ride both units. Either way, you will like the spyder experience. Unfortunately, I fear you will regret the purchase of a 2013.

Just my opinion and not intended to offend current owners of 2013's.

Sorry, I did not realize you were considering an RS, not RT. I have no knowledge or experience.
