TORN & TATTERED
a short story:
I pulled into the driveway today from a short ride. My wife of 45 years was in the driveway, so she came over to greet me...
She pointed to our Flag attached to the MAN-CAVE and said, "Why don't you get ride of that one and get a new one?"
I looked at our Flag, and in seconds I replied to her: "She may be old, She may be torn, tattered and faded, but like you, She is still beautiful to me."
My wife hugged me and said, "Thank you, She is beautiful. Let's just leave Her there"....

She may get beat up by our politicians, but She flies high and proud to me, for She does not represent those politicians, She represents WE THE PEOPLE...

My only porblem with that is the way i was raised. you show respect for the flag itself. it comes down at night, when it rains, snows etc. and when it gets soiled it is propely destroyed and replaced so that it is never seen as discolored or weak. I was raised in a military house and also as a boyscout and this was the proper treatment of a United States of America Flag.

granted
granted, you two are correct... and i have replaced many over the years... however, this one is talking to me, and She is saying: "WE THE PEOPLE are being abused and punished for being saviors of the world" so with that said, i'll keep Her flying the way she is, and until we have politicians that believe in Her and our Constitution, then and ONLY then will I render Her to retirement and a proper burial...
another note: do you two fly a Flag....? i fly 4 all the time... and our Flag can be flow at night as long as She is illuminated... which mine are...
btw, i thought it was very nice for my wife to say what she said, and that's what i was trying to project... and YES, i have had it in my mind to replace this one for some time now... but my 'dander is up' now, so She stays....

I really wasn't trying to start anything or make anyone angry.I'm sorry if it came across that way. I was just giving my opinion on the treatment of the flag. I hope everyone is happy and has a wonderful christmas and don't forget the reason for the season.
God Bless,

nice way to look at it! but you've got admit, you've got your moneys worth out of that flag!!!

Dan/Spyd3R...your sentiments sound like and remind me of an old song sung by Johnny Cash. The name of the song could be "This Old Flag", but it's been awhile and I could be wrong. In any event and with all else aside, thank you for both your sentiment and and your patriotism. America needs more of both.

Retire that flag!
There is no reason to disrespect the flag that way. Dander or not, torn, tattered or soiled flags need to be cleaned or repaired. Fly it proudly, and make sure it is in presentable condition. Google US Flag codes. If you wish to keep it, great! Just don't display it like that. If you wish to retire it properly, contact the American Legion or your local boy scout troop. They will know how to take care of it for you. Way too many Americans died to keep that flag flying. Respect their sacrifice; fly the flag proudly, properly, and honorably.

BM;
if your wife treats you the way mine treats me, after dragging her from one State to another over the last 45 years (GE's requirements), then maybe you need to 'suck up' to her....
good luck.... really hope she's that understanding...

Section 8k of the Flag Code states:
(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
You're the one flying the flag, so although some of us may disagree with what you consider 'fitting emblem' it's your decision where and how it is flown.

Our President shows no respect to our troops, our freedom, or this Nation. I am a Vet, and I fought for our freedom, and have a feeling I will be fighting once again once all hell hits the fan. I think your flag represent the state of our Nation just fine, fly her proud.

Absolutely no doubt about it!
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

Arn't you doing the same thing our present government is doing by disrespecting our flag's rules. WE THE PEOPLE, follow the rules and traditions, we don't drop to their level. Keep it if you must but fly a new one with pride. Please.
