I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to post or comment. Your words here sealed the deal for me the evening after my test drive.
I think I finagled a pretty good deal on my RTS, buying it on the last day of the month in November with the 2015's about to hit the showroom. The four year warranty was a nice surprise bonus, as I was going to buy an extended one until they told me about it while I was declining their finance options...
I love it! My kids call it the bat-mobile, the wife named it (she has a penchant for naming inanimate objects she likes) before we even signed the papers, and the guys at work have had a lot of great comments about it. It is to be my daily driver except in wet weather.
i would love to hear any advice for a new SPYDER owner that any would care to share.
congrats on your new ryde.. welcome to the spyder world and this site, which you already know..read your manual cover to cover check the do's and don't here and ryde a good 300/500 miles then come back and ask anything you like from soup to nuts and you will get advise... lots of it..be safe..!!

The wife named it 'Draco'. 😛 She thinks the front end looks like a dragon's face. There was a movie in the mid-nineties that came out called Dragonheart, with Sean Connery voicing the dragon that was named Draco.
I am just happy she was onboard with it. We were shopping for a family vehicle earlier that day (Black Friday) and had driven a few vehicles but fallen in love with none of them. The car dealership was playing price games with us so we left to get a late lunch. On the hunt for a place to eat, we saw an Indian store and I stopped in for a quick browse while the wife waited in the car. The Indian place mainly refurbished old bikes and sold antique bikes & Indian accessories - they did not really have anything I could trust as a daily driver. The guy at the counter was nice though and in casual conversation I brought up Can Ams and he pointed out there was a place with some only a mile or two away... Chatted the wife up over lunch and we stopped in, eventually I test drove a Limited but liked the RTS just fine.
The price on the RTS was about what I had planned to spend on for our car. The extra features on the Limited (over priced GPS, a CB I would not use much, fancy stitching on the seat, do not remember what else was different) coupled with the added expense seemed like overkill to me.
The kids were shocked when we came home the next day with it. My teenager thought we were getting a 2015 Chevy Cruze with the onboard wifi...
I am getting a strong smell of rubber in the garage off the stock tires, even after only a short drive. Is this normal? I have not been able to see any obvious signs of unusual tire wear, but
I only have 110 miles on it so far.

I'm not sure what is causing the smell although sometimes when new they generate a hot smell until broken in a little bit more.
I think others may have missed your question in your post so perhaps others will see this and be able to respond.
Good luck with it and you will have a blast with it.
Like you, I did not see any value for me with the Ltd. I love the RTS SE6. the '14 is a homerun IMHO...can't help you on tire smell...have never had, but the first 8k miles it was not in my garage, so not much help there. I have had new tires mounted and then in garage within a couple hundred and no smells, but then my nose is not of the bloodhound variety. My teenage grandkids totally luv my Spyders and luv me to pick them up from school. There friends say you have the "coolest grandma"!!!! Yep your Spyder will make you a STAR...I tell folks if you don't like people don't buy a Spyder. Welcome and again Congrats.

We also had a "Rubber" smell coming from our bike, turned out it was the belt. Dealer readjusted it and no more "rubber" smell. Hope this give you another place to look, Kent.

+3 on the smell coming from the belt. I agree; give it a chance to get happy with it's new surroundings.
Thanks - that is reassuring.
I love forums so I will make an update post as I get on the road more. Mother nature has been threatening and my cockpit cover hasn't arrived yet so I am leaving 'Draco' in the garage on days rain is expected.
Thanks for the warm welcome e eryone and the thoughtful replies.
Welcome-- I traded my '12 RT S for a '14 RT L, the RT S wasn't on the show room. I would have bought the RT S otherwise.
I enjoy my '14 model, even though I only have 4100 miles since May.
Enjoy

Congrats on your new Ryde. My 2014 RTS also threw an assortment of aromas on cool down when fairly new. It kind of reminded me of "protectant" and insulation. A definite rubber-like quality to it. I just kind of wrote it off as a seasoning event, and the effect will lessen after a couple thousand miles.
