Starting Issues
Let me start off by saying that I have REALLY enjoyed riding my new Spyder, I have reached the 3000 mile mark. I have a 2013 ST-S SE5 I bought brand new. Sunday was a beautiful sunny day in the low 60's. I went to crank up the Spyder and she started right up, waited for her to warm up and took off on a little ride to the store. Leaving the store, I switched her on, waited for the start screen to come on, pushed the mode button, hit the kill switch to the on position (it's in Neutral, always leave it there) and hit the starter button. You could here the starter whine and the engine start to lug...but wouldn't start. I let off of the start button, waited a few seconds and hit the starter again and it cranked right up. The screen went back to the original CAN AM screen like when you first turn it on, then it swtiched to the gauges. It ran fine rest of the day. Got home, and let it sit for a couple of hours, and thought I would give it another try. Again it started just fine, so I shut it off. And then try to re-crank it, same issue. You could here starter whine and the engine lug but wouldn't start...let off the starter, and pushed it again and it cranked.
Has this happened to anyone? Any thoughts on what the issue is?
Thanks,

I have not had that issue, but your dealer should check it out since it is still under warranty.

Interesting..!!
do have it checked out...seems the computer has not had time to reset but may need buds to check those programs out. Let us know what they find, may be just those annoying glitches....

I had a similar problem to yours in regards to starting/nonstarting and idling badly. It turned out to be a faulty butterfly in
the throttle body, and they replaced the Purge Valve as well, no more issues.
I haven't had problems with the Screen as you have, so possibly 2 separate issues.

I'm thinking maybe the Bendix on the starter? If they even still have them. Or am I just showing my age?Old man.jpg

brake light switch
Brake light staying on usually is due to a faulty brake light switch. Had to have mine replaced this summer. It's a warranty item.

Sticking brake light switch on a 2013 ST is a common problem and I believe that BRP issued a service bulletin for it. I had that problem on mine and dealer fixed it.
I did some research because I was surprised that the Spyder never showed a fault of any kind while riding for miles with the brake light on. What I found out is brake light being on for no matter how long will not cause a fault. But riding with your foot on the brake pedal will, because the low pressure switch is activated and high pressure is not. This is interpreted as a possible brake system failure and causes limp mode.

When I had the issue you described it was because the battery cables were loose. Tightened them up and it solved the issue.

That's a new one. Since the brake lights and running lights share the same bulb in the tail lights. How could you tell the difference? Since the tail running lights and front fender lights share the same circuit. They must have been on as well?

I stepped on break & they got brighter. Did not notice fender lights.
