IMO, Polaris is trying to sell to the niche customers who aren't comfortable riding a motorcycle, yet want something they feel is close to that experience. Calling the Slingshot a motorcycle allows Polaris to market a product that doesn't have to pass DOT crash tests for automobiles.
A similar situation is occurring in the aviation market, where a few manufacturers are trying to resurrect flying cars, without having to pass DOT crash regulations for the car part. If they have to protect the occupants, they will be too heavy to fly, particularly under the light sport category that has weight limits around 1300 lbs.
Only time will tell if Polaris appeals to a large enough market base to recoup their investment. It doesn't do much for me, but people may be looking for something to whip their hair around and not have to spend $30K+ to do it in a convertible.

I don't think so. I saw her at the Kubota tractor shop and maybe I will be getting a new tractor for Xmas. She bought me one in 1990 and it is a little long in the tooth. A tractor is a great therapy tool....if you get po.ed, ya push a tree down or turn over the neighbors car....

Went to the dealer, Ride Now, here in Las Vegas the other day to check out the slingshot.
I have to agree, that it does look cool from the front, not really liking the rear end view. It'll be interesting too see how many miles they get on this rear tire. I just don't see the price difference justification between the two models. The red having the back - up camera, and the sound system.
I think I'd have to watch how this vehicle road test out, after a yr or so, before I could get excited about it. JMHO

Here's the thing..!!
there needs to be a distinction between a Three wheeled car and a Three wheeled motorcycle. Till then they will keep lumping them together and causing confusion. I have said it before...if you sit in a seat, hold a steering wheel, wear a seat belt, have body panels with or without doors you are a car..!!

Well, the Slingshot SL I ordered will be delivered Monday..... to the new owner - I succumbed to a (large) financial inducement from a friend who wanted the SS more than I did. This means that this year's farkles and trips with/for my RT are essentially free, and I'll get back in the queue this summer for a '16.
At least I'll get to test drive it.....

I'll still get to drive it -- and see what the year develops with them too. Same thing happened with my first V-rod. I bought SN#12, and my neighbor HAD to have THAT bike, while I wasn't happy at the time, I did get to put a few miles on it, and I've enjoyed three of them since that one - so I'll look forward to the 2016 model year.

Saw one of these on the SANTA'S ANANAMOUS RIDE this year , chatted up the gentleman, got the info etc. Contacted the dealer ( October ) apparently the unit there belonged to the manufacturer and not available for test rides, any way still waiting for a call as my name is 7th on the list, due to the fact we have 2 feet of fresh snow in the past 2 days, not holding out any hope. Would be nice to try for a test blast tho.....

I must be really weird. I always wanted a Fiat 850 Spyder when I was a kid. I didn't have to worry about repairs - I worked CHEAP! Parts, though could be another issue.
