    Exclamation Rear rim

    Hi All,
While cleaning yesterday noticed that the coating (chrome) on the inside of the rear rim is peeling off. Attaching a picture here.
Has anyone else experienced this? What have you guys done? Is this just cosmetic or do I need to change the rim?

    Thanks
    DS

For starters: How old is your bike, and is it still under warranty?
That's not going to stop peeling on it's own... It won't hurt the function of the wheel, but it sure isn't pretty ...
I'd contact the dealer, and see what they have to say about it; good luck!

    Default Curious..!!

is it a factory chrome rim..?? If so would check with the dealer. If aftermarket plating need to go to them. Should not be peeling off...

Yes, this is factory installed rim. This is on a 2009 SM5, so manufacture's as well as BEST warranty is over.
Will talk to the dealer and see what they have to say. Was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

    Thanks.

Is this on the BELT side of the wheel?
You might have picked up a stone into the belt, and had it slung downward into the wheel...

Cosmetic for sure. Not pretty to look at close up, but don't think you will get a demerit ticket from the rim police.

At five years of use, some wear and tear is going to show. I had a couple paint peels on the front bumper of my 2010, I just let it go. It did not affect the ride, and you had to look hard to see it.

    That's my take.

I woyld also keep an eye on it. Usually when chrome starts to peel it wont stop. Also the raw material underneath is more prone to corrosion as well.
