Default Dont lose your spyder keys.

I cant find any of my spyder keys and it seems its going to be 500.00 to replace it, Having to replace the DESS and the Ignition is a ****ty design choice by BRP. Even on Cars you don't have to replace the entire ignition system if you lose your keys. I'm continuing my search for my misplaced key.

Hope you can come up with at least one. Keys are crazy these days. My last car rental, they told me lose the key, $500 charge.

I sure hope you find it. I always thought that you could order a new key, if you lost one, and have it programed by a code that BRP has in their computer according to your serial number. I guess that's not correct.

What happened to your spare key?
If you can find that; just take it, and your bike to the dealer. You can get a new key cut, and the system re-programmed quickly!

So then, if you lost both, why can't you get a new key, with a new chip, cut according to our key code, and then have the system re-programmed to the new chip?

You cannot program a new key without at least one of the valid keys in the ignition. FYI, many cars are the same way today.

On pre-2014 spyders you have to have a working key to enter into the process for adding a key and the keys you are adding must also be present. The 2014s add keys through BUDS, but I don't have a service manual to verify if you can do that without a working key being physically present at the time.

BRP told me id have to have a new ignition and DESS installed. I'm not sure where all the paperwork is for when i bought the bike, am trying to find that as well because it has my spare key with it. I've torn my house apart looking for the key. I don't believe its in the frunk, but if it is..I have no way to get into there to look.

This would have never happened if this was a normal key that you could attach a keyring too, Unless BRP wants you to lose them so you pay up.

    Default Bummer..!!

could you have locked one or both in the storage compartments..?? This is common, putting your key in your jacket pocket then tossing the jacket in the trunk... Don't know of any other way to get a key. On earlier models you could clone keys from one good one. Always have one at home....hope one shows up....

There have been people who were able to get into the frunk, but I haven't read of anyone getting into the trunk or the sidebags.

$500.00 is for the ignition switch and DESS module only it does not include the labour to change them out. I would add another $200 for labour. So find that key. Even if had of cut an unchipped key that would saved changing the ignition switch and only the DESS would have to be changed.

    Cool

Taking into account the cost involved I think I would contact a locksmith who specialises in auto keys and get him to pick the lock
on the trunk so at least you can satisfy yourself that your missing key isn't there. Most good locksmiths can open most locks by picking,
    raking or 'bumping' the lock.

If a locksmith can cut me a key to fit the ignition, I only would have to replace the DESS then?

The service tech at my dealer can open the frunk by going from behind and under the trunk some way. He has a tool he made so he can activate the latch by pushing or pulling it I'm not sure which.

Can a key be cut to just unlock the seat, and compartments? I have one for my truck that cost me $1.50 without a chip and keep it in my wallet.

If a locksmith can make you a key then yes just the DESS needs to be replaced. But I don't think they can. Unless you have the rubber tag with the key code. Then a locksmith with a special machine can cut a new key from that code. But I assuming that the tag is with the spare key that you can't find.

Two ways... Billy just suggested one way. Otherwise a locksmith could surely pick the lock.

I know it is to late in this case, but I believe in over kill on these keys. I bought/had programed two extra keys for each of my two Spyders. then a couple cheap(no chip) blanks and somebody said, keep one in your wallet or something. One of my two extra keys is kept in the lock box with my title.
Good luck with thelocksmith getting in to the trunk and you finding your key, or you find the spare key. You still will need a key in the storage compartments, if you have to get a new unit.

Been there done that...had a locksmith pick the lock to get power to open the frunk then ordered
A blank from Amazon had to buy 10 so made 2 keys for mine and sold 3 to others on Spyderlovers
Check the posts. Your not the first to loose one if indeed it's in the frunk. Good place to start, there are other ways to trip the lock others have listed. I still have 5 blanks if interested send me a self addressed envelope and 2 dollars...pm for my address

Just went through this. Two dealers told me it is $1300 for two keys, and complete ignition harness. Purchasing dealer, Ride Now Sports had lost the second key for my new 2014. They gave me a key and told me to get it cut. This was done in Bourne TX at the dealer there. After three cuts we finally got the key in but it would not program. It was the wrong key. Ride Now gave me a key for the 2013 it turns out. The 2014 is a different key. If replacing your 2014 keys make sure they are for the 2014. We had to order a new key from BRP.

    Another Ride Now experience.
