noise
I don't know what it is but I am looking forward to the replies you'll get....... Mine has the whine also. I look around when going down the road if anyone turns to see what noisy contraption is coming behind them ( they do) Worse than my mother in laws whine in older days...(very annoying..haha)

Is this a new development, or has your bike always made the noise?

36 mph
I have a whine in my 2014 RT but it is only at exactly 36 mph. Not at 35 - not at 37. Just 36. So I just ignore it and don't travel at 36 mph.

When I test drove the 2014 RT at the owners event in Durango CO thought the bike made a lot of noise with the fans and what not. It was sort of annoying but i figured something under there has to make this beast go!!!!

Yes...some noise here as well...just living with it
Yes, I have a whine in the transmission (my guess) when I'm in 5th gear....it's typically when going through a town or cornering, etc. I think it's about the same now as when the bike had about 1500 miles on it -- I now have 11,000 miles on it. I'm just living with it and have not notified the dealer/tech about it. I shift gears to minimize the noise at this point.
The 2014 RT is AWESOME and absolutely no oil usage....as long as it continues to run well, I think I can manage this "whine"!
Happy and safe rydin'

The loud whine is probably your fuel pump. There have been a fair number of folks with this issue, but I have yet to hear of one failing. Get it replaced with a new one, and the noise goes away (or so I'm told).
I'll have mine changed in the Spring, when I go in for my 3K service.

Fuel pumps have been making the rounds in here...
But you've described a rattle, and they don't do that!
(Unless they fall of the bike, and are rolling across the pavement! )

Try this - at idle put pressure on the end of your handle bar as if to turn. It dosen't matter left or right. By doing so does the noise get louder? If it does it may be your alternator.
Mine was replaced last month due to this.

Noise
As stated, mine is noisy and has been since delivery. I've got 10,500 clicks on it now and it seems a little less noisy. Maybe I'm just getting used to it or my hearing aid battery needs replacing. Ride Safe and have a good one.

Depends..!
these are tight engines. There is some whirring and whinning but vary with rpms. If you have a constant sound will probably be the fuel pump. You walk around the spyder and see if you can localize the area it is coming from...

I'm trying to find an exploded view of the 1330 ACE but just by looking at the beginning of this video I can clearly see the timing chain lower gear is being driven via straight cut spur gears at the crankshaft. Straight cut gears are notorious for producing the type of whining noise you describe and is perfectly normal.
Have you ever heard a V-8 engine with an aftermarket gear drive cam installed? Very noisy.

My 2012 rt has a bit of a rattle/whine when cornering at low speed. Always has since new and I have 12k miles on it now. Thought maybe the clutch....

Yes, I have the same constant whine from my 2014 engine compartment. I only notice the whinning noise at idle. But this engine is so smooth and emits very little noise otherwise. When compared to my 2012 V-twin engine. Which was a lot louder, I had to turn the volume way up just to hear the radio. I love the ACE 1330 engine

Noise
My 2014 RT-S SE 6 was noisy under 45 MPH until about 2000 miles, then it quieted down, like it was a different bike. The noise was worse when the engine temp was up to normal. MarcusB

A 3' plastic PVC pipe works pretty good walking around and listening through it while it idles.

Some of the sound is from the fuel system all ok.. So just ride and have fun. They all have that sound.
