Default A new issue with the bags

I've had a side case open while driving 3 times now. It was not the same case each time (once right , twice left). I haven't lost anything yet, but I did have to turn around and retrieve a bag yesterday. I'm not sure why this is happening because I'm usually pretty good about making sure that they're really closed, but I would recommend you keep and eye on them.

    Default Bag

My left bag opened up while driving down the road also. I have know idea of why and had driven 150 miles from home. Lost some stuff and had to dodge traffic to get other stuff out of the middle of the road (rain gear). That was a few months ago and has not happened since. Both my bags are hard to open, I have to slap them to get them to unlatch.

    Default opening side bags

I also had the right side bag pop open on three occasions.......checked all screws and latches, didn't find any oddities. I thought I was the only one with this problem but through this informative site, the mystery unravels.

That happened to my 2010 early on, and it was an adjustment in the latch mechanism. Took the tech about 15 minutes to fix - sorry I don't remember more...

Default Slap the bag to open the door

Had the same problem with my 2012 RTS. The adjustment is simple, just requires a T30 Torx driver. Open the bag and loosen the two torxhead bolts between the latch mechanisms. Loosen the bolts a couple turns. Close the door and open it several times while the bolts are loose. This should line the latch mechanisms up the the strikers on the door. When the door opens without slapping it tighten the 2 torx bolts, taking care not to allow the latch mechanisms to move.

    Thanks for his info!
I had a bag open at speed; on my 2010... NOT fun!
My '14, has one sidethat's a bit reluctant to ope, unless you put a little pressure on the door. I'm leaving it alone for now; I'm waiting to see if it "wears itself in" a bit.

Has anyone ever had this problem with the Givi bags. It seems like it would be more of a problem for them to accidentally open if fully closed.

My require a little pressure to open on both sides but have never come open on their own in over 22000 miles so I won't mess with them

A few possibilities (mentioned above) can cause the problem. I always check mine by giving them the pull test prior to riding. So far, no opening on their own during a ride.

Since I started locking my bags they have not flown open. Wish everything was such an easy fix.

Will the bag fly open even if the open bag warning is not lit up?

Locking them hem doesn't always keep them from opening on their own.

Is there an extra charge for the AUTO-OPEN bags feature?? Just ordered a 2014 RT-S yesterday and didn't see that on the accessories sheet!

The latches are out of adjustment causing the cases to open up. Once the latches are adjusted do not slam the side cases closed as this causes the latches to become out of adjustment.
I close the side cases by pushing them closed, I do the same with the frunk lid and rear trunk lid.

The perfect locking mechanism for your bags is called "Duct Tape" - assures your bags will NOT open...

    Default Side opening Saddlebags

I don't have an RT but I'm not a fan of side-opening saddlebags. I much prefer top opening ones but only aftermarket bags will work with a Non-RT model Spyder.
