Are you parked in a darkened garage?
The primary color used in their nighttime color-scheme for the main screen, is ORANGE...
...Which is the same ORANGE used for the various "Holy CRAP!" modes!

It must be dark. The orange background is much easier to read at night than prior color combo

Yup! Got that yesterday pulling into my garage at 4:30 PM, Cloudy, very dark overcast.

Don't hardly ever see the night screen since we are from the land of the midnight sun. My riding is usually done during the daylight hours.

The snesor is located at about the ten O'clock position in the analog speedometer display...
Put your palm over the speedo display, and you should see it change over to the nighttime setup!

I can get mine to come on if I cover the whole speedo with a paper. I have not been able to locate the exact spot for the sensor though. I have played with the 10:00 position (140 or so area) and come up dry.
