Spyder problem, no help in manual
Well, after all these years of trouble free RT spyders (12 Limited, 13 Basic and now 14 RT-S) i finally run into a problem that has not been discussed on this forum, let me explain
1 got dressed and walked out to my Spyder, turned the key on and waited for the computer to do it's thing, 12 seconds or so later it says "before operating read safety message then press mode button"
Now i intend to stay within my warranty guidelines and don't want to get in trouble so................. i reach up for the safety card and it is stuck, it will not come out.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?????????????????? PLEASE HELP.
so embarrassed by this situation that i won't even sign my name so you won't know who this is

Oh my goodness!! what a horrible thing to have happen to you!!! What are you going to do ?? If you don't read the safety instruction you can't ride!
Seems to me that BRP should replace your Spyder IMMEDIATELY!!

That is serious trouble indeed Joe. Here's what I would do, go to the manual, on page 108 is the safety message. Find some good sharp scissors, cut it out a
nd then duck tape it to the glove box door, on the outside of course where you can read at any time Then take a picture and send it to BRP so they can add it to the file they have on you.

Not reading the safety card will NOT void the warranty. However, the card retainer has a micro switch which when opened, counts the number of times the safety card is read before start. This goes in to the BUDS under safety card activation. After 250 starts without reading the card, the BUDS goes in to safety lockdown sequencing. There is no code for this available to the owner. The machine must then be towed to the dealer. The dealer must have a current BUDS program for unlocking the sequencer, resetting the counter and updating the ECM. Please note that once the system is reset the number of starts is reduced to 200 when the sequencer locks the system again. Currently there is only one dealer who has this program from BRP. They can't use it because their AST computer is down and their BRP tech only works on Tuesday and Thursday. Monday, Wednesday and Friday he shovels coal at the mine.

NSA
maybe the NSA can help, they can find out anything.....

That's how BRP knows you haven't been reading it. After so much disuse, it sticks and you have to go to a dealer and confess, thus voiding your warranty!
-
the best way to remove that card is with a chainsaw. The sticking issue will be solved for good.

My salesman actually told me that you had to pull out the card to start the engine... I just nodded and smiled

The cheap glue leaked. Leave it in the sun for an hour or so, and open it. Remove the sticker, and clean the panel with "Goof Off" or something similar. Find a "Do Not Mess with my Spyder" sticker, and place it on the now clean panel. Close the panel.
The panel now has a beneficial use as an additional deterrent for keeping admirers off your ryde...

You can always just leave it in the "deployed" position; it does a nice job of reducing the glare on the main screen!

I live in Califonia, and had this problem. It IS NOT covered by warranty. It took 1.5 hours of shop time to fix it! It cost me $135.00 at the dealer. THE MORAL OF THE STORY: PULL OUT THE CARD AND READ IT EVERY TIME. THE NANNY KNOWS IF YOU JUST PULL IT OUT AND PUSH IT IN. YOU MUST READ IT.
