Question Anyone else heard of $1,000 dealer freight charges on 2014 RT's

I have bought two previous RT's and never a freight charge but I am seeing one on my dealer's offer sheet. Sure eats into that discount! Anybody have this experience or am I nuts

Default Yes we have it here too

Makes me feel like I'm paying a hidden secondary tax!!

The bike is already here, so Why do we have to pay for the shipping?

    ...Sounds like CRAP to me!
The freight on my 2014 was $500.
I'd find another dealer that actually wants to SELL bikes.

Default You are much closer too,

To the point of origin, than both of us are.

That could be why, your shipping tax, is half the cost of ours?

Dealer waived the $600 F+A, plus discounted $1850. I thought that was a good deal. Tom

Maybe just a way to recoup some of the trade-in funds. More than one way to skin a cat I guess. I will check with them early next week when they open. Got the bid late on Sat. Always easier to buy straight up than to trade. Opens up an endless set of scenarios and confuses the situation. I guess it is part of "the chase".
    Thanks for the opinions expressed.

What the dealer may be giving up on trade or msrp pricing, they may be trying to get back on hidden freight charges.

It's all a part of the "game."

Procaliber actually sold me my '14 RTL at an RTS price, no F/A, no setup, no fees other than doc. They also threw in a free laser alignment done by Shaun Smok.

They messed up the promised delivery time, but gave me $200 credit to any accessories, gave them to me at dealers' cost(sales guy actually showed me their cost vs retail) AND gave me 10%.

excessive? maybe, but they were really good people to work with.

Does this have any relevance to the OP? yes, because there were 2 dealers up north that insisted a 1K F/A fee + 500 Dealer setup fee was appropriate which I promptly said wasn't and went elsewhere. It never hurts to tell them you have another dealer willing to waive those fee's (doenst hurt when you ACTUALLY have one that will) to see if they would match another's offer.

It's an expensive investment and I learned after a boat and truck debacle that I have to call around and get the best deal for ME. if they arent willing to work for it, then they dont need my business.

The dealers is pushing the limits of what he hopes to get from you.

    Actually, you hold the cards.

I would either head somewhere else, or with the added fees, start getting stuff written down by them.

If they want that extra money, share with them that an additional 4 years of quality and transferable warranty (pus other stuff like options) will let you consider the added fees.

I would also consider some of the better dealers people talk about here. Could be worth the effort of a road trip.

yes and I hate paying freight. Your dealer is giving you a rebate that is a factory rebate from BRP so he is getting that money back from BRP. So another words it not costing your dealer a cent to give you a rebate.
By charging you freight he is also grabbing back his money he had to lay out to have the units ship to him. Its looks like the dealer is giving you a sweet deal when in fact he is not, without the rebate you would be paying full price plus PDI and Freight.
I would tell him to take off the freight charge or call around to other dealers to negotiate a price with out freight and the BRP rebate. JMHO

I would be calling another dealer. I have never paid a freight/set up charge. I purchased in MO (Pitbull Powersports...encourage you to give them a call)...and only had to pay taxes when I registered in WA state. For that I had 2 invoices. The one strictly for the new Spyder less trade-in....that is the one I paid the new vehicle sales tax on. Other invoice was for the mods I had Pitbull do before delivery (those were tax free). Let us know what you choose to do. Whatever it is, you will love the Spyder and the miles of smiles it will give you.

Your dealer is being charged freight from BRP. I guess whether they choose to pass this cost on to you is a different story.

I am on my 4th spyder and never have paid freight. Although here in Virginia/NC they charge a documentation fee which I really hate paying and got my 2014 without paying it...normally they charge $199 to $399 to do the paperwork. What the heck that should be part of their profit to do paperwork.

Just another way to squeeze a few extra bucks out of you. Some try to charge salesman commission etc. etc. etc. If it makes you suspicious it probably is a ripoff!

Try another dealer with a different owner. Some own multiple dealerships an you will get the same ol samo. Stay away from the large multi owned dealerships. They usually suck.

Default Problem resolved and it all comes down to bottom line.

"Six one way or half a dozen the other". I had a good talk about the situation with the dealer and I decided he was MORE than fair on my trades (2 RT-S's) and that he was tossing in some extras that were not specifically noted in line item catagories and in the end the numbers were good and, I have to admit, were right where I thought (hoped ) I would wind up when I started this endeavor. We always want the slam dunk, right!

Guy's got to make some money and his deal was better than the dealer with the cheap, cheap cash price 300 miles away (after considering what they offered for my trades). It all comes down to the last number at the bottom of the deal. I'm happy and I have a dealer that I can trust to look out for my best interest, locally....that is worth something in itself.

Thanks all you Spyderheads for y'alls thoughts and insight.
