Default My next mod for EVIL heat challenge

Had talked to a few different people and even the dealer said think about removing the lower splash panels to help with heat. Well looking and messing with the bike tonight pull the panels off and did a little mod to them so I could keep them in place. The 13 models have a electric solenoid down right above the left splash panel for reverse, these have the electric solenoid instead of a cable so thought it was kinda important not to get it wet, not like I ride in the rain but ya never know. So heres what I did the scoops are vacuum attachments I picked up from home depot and they direct the air up twards the engine and the exhaust and back.
let me know what ya think

Thanks thanks guys , the idea seem like as good way to direct some air up, we will see how it works but everything is a good idea when you run on no sleep

being just plastic drilled and riveted to the bottom of the splash pan on each side then silicone sealed around each one.

Nice. Did you allow for the hot air to exhaust out somewhere?

I made no more holes in the bike , on my frame there are some vertical holes that essentially do the same thing but maybe not as high volume, everything is already open behind the engine and under the tank, don't think any more is needed as far as air exit points. The dealer installed the new side panels that pull a lot more air then those little scoops I put on and the air flow seems to be real good, but you have any suggestions fire away please, any more info would be great

I was also thinking of putting holes in the bottom panels instead of removing them completely if the new side panels are not enough, taking it one step at a time.

BRP has new side panels for the RS as well? or are they the same as the ST? Nothing for the RT?

The 2014 air flow panels fit ST and RS models.....nothing for RT...yet!

My RT has decided to create it's own scoop and I do not intend on fixing it unless it gets ripped off. You can see from the pic that the cover will not stay clipped to the frame. Maybe that is why I am having slightly less gas smell (still sometimes occurs).

That looks like a GREAT idea!
Just keep in mind, that the extra air that you're "scooping" up, has to go somewhere...
Here's to hoping, that it's found an outlet that carries the heat right on out the rear of the bike!

It is trying to heal itself Bob that is the side where the EVAP hose is and the MC also is at. I did not do anything it popped off before and I popped it back on but if it wants a breeze I will leave it alone. If it gets torn off it will be a warranty item I am sure. All pins are in and it is bolted on the other side. Seems to be some "warpage" as opposed to shrinkage LOL

    Looks good Bill.
Also, do you still have the panels in place behind the side panels.
In 2013 BRP added a panel that fills the gap between the oil tank panel and the other side panel. This filler panel didn't exist til 13'. Take a peek at the pick of my 12'. This is the left side. You can see the header pipe in the gap.
I know a few guys pulling that filler piece out.

I removed the 2 rear pieces of the 4 piece plate on the bottom of my '08 GS and it did a WORLD of good. I chose to leave the front 2 panels in place though, because they appeared to be covering critical components. I no longer have the heat being trapped inside my tupperware, and run overall much cooler. It did not totally solve my heat issue...but it has dramatically reduced the problem.
