Default Something I'd Like To See On My Spyder

When riding with a group, where the speed fluctuates a lot (a new rider up from, slowing for curves, and such), I spend a lot of time looking at the tach to make sure my RPMs remain over 5,000 . . . I sure would like a set of tiny LEDs on the dash . . . red, yellow, green . . . that let me know what RPMs I'm turning . . . with suggested ranges like: red, below 4300, yellow, 4300 to 4900, green, 5000 and up!

This would let me keep my eyes on the road, and shift based on peripheral vision of the LEDs . . .

I'd buy this farkle in a second!

    Patti...

What I'd like to see on mine...
A re-designed rear storage compartment system...
The side storage could be wider and deeper, and the top trunk could be wider, longer and have a better designed opening...
    Oh!
And if Stana Katic was available for a day's ride...
The four of us could make for a nice day's journey!

    Default Relax..!!

with time you will feel the rpm's and know when you need to run some up or shift. The less you have to look at the dash the better. Some folks don't use their eco system on the 14's just because they have to watch for the shift points. (dosen't help much anyway)...

It isn't a problem when I'm riding alone, only when with a group . . . with our "2 second rule" I'm pretty close to the Spyder in front of me, and riding through the mountains, which we do, often) RPMs can drop off rapidly . . . a visual is better than relying on 66 year old aviator ears . . . the tinnitus is louder than the Spyder!

Hayfield, what would be way cool is to have those lights somehow projected on your windshield so you wouldn't have to take your eyes off the road or the Spyder (or bike, or car, or ?) in front of you. Kinda like a heads up display.

BTW, interesting to note that out of the 11 posts in this tread so far, 6 have nothing to do with the subject of your original post. Post who*#$ are running rampant!

Default Run with an open mind

Yes, we all have our precious wishes and dreams.
Having those tiny LED's to assist you in shifting sounds like a great idea. Obviously others have already considered this and the kit hyperlink shared above is available for hook up.

Love the little lights on my house phones, that blink when the phone rings, or when I have a voice mail message waiting.

I don't mind watching my gauges, just be careful with one eye on the road...

It would be awesome having a heads up display in the helmet visor like the military use.

Why do I suddenly feel like I have to justify something that I'd like to have on my Spyder, that would make it a little easier for a guy with old man's eyes and crappy hearing to ride, safely?

If you have no problem, good for you . . . remove all your farkles and ride your Spyder as it came from the factory, because, obviously, there is no room for improvement . . .

    Default I'd like

Some type of stick on magnifier to put over the gauges so I can
read them, that would be terrific.

My DeSota/Dodge sedan (tells how old I am) had a speedometer that changed color. It would be green back lighted until a certain speed, then yellow, then red. Do not remember speed for each.
By the way, the RPM by ear has been around for years, ask any old truck driver. I think that was the message being passed on.
Just do what you want to your vehicle, but it is interesting if something else is available. I would like a real automatic pilot so I could take my afternoon nap and still travel. I am 78 going on 79 real soon. Do not see that happening any time soon.

RE: Larger display: I have noticed that the displays have been getting smaller and smaller since the inception of the in 2008. I hate it when I have to lean forward to see the time or temp.

For tach readings, I just note the position of the needle on the analog guage. Mostly drive by engine sound and feel though.

I'd buy this farkle in a second!

I saw a Ecliptech Shift-i Progressive Shift Light on a sport bike last year mounted directly above his speedometer. It had the Blue/Red combo and was quite visible in the sunlight. I asked him if it was an easy install and he basically said that if you had a wiring diagram you could easily mount and program the shift points within an hour. It also had a few other interesting features, but the only thing I remember, other than the shift points, is a built in voltage monitor. Sold my Spyder a few weeks later, but I am sure that it would have remained on my radar if I had continued to ride.

It is a personal thing when it comes to identifying shift points, and I totally understand why such a product is of interest to you.

    Good luck in your search.
