No helmet required in NC even as a motorcycle. Our law has been tested, if you ride inside vice astride, no helmet.

He's from Canada...eh.
The rules will apply based upon how each jurisdiction chooses to apply them...
Example: Here in Noo Yawk; it's a bike, and you need a pot!

Anyone found MPG info yet? I'm ass-u-ming with as heavy as that puppy is that MPG wouldn't be great, but if it's up in the 40's there may be one less Spyder in the family.
edit: 27mpg. Fahgetabbouit.

Actually... the mileage estimates aren't looking a whole lot worse, than what some of the 998-equipped RT jockeys are getting.

My 998 is consistently around 30, sometimes a little above, sometimes a little below. Only about 3200 miles on it now, running brp semi-dino. I don't expect much change when I go to full syn though.
I sure as heck would not go down to less mpgs....good chance I'll look for a '14 leftover after a while rather than go for the polaris.

That 2.4l ecotec motor makes right at 175hp and they have a nice little turbo bolt on kit that pushes it well over 200hp.
The slingshot is going to scream!
Personally, I consider it less of a bike than the Spyder but whatever....
Anyone have any idea on what it weighs?? Wonder how tough its going to be to keep power to the ground...
I'd rather have the slingshot but in the 4 wheel design.

I don't see why it wouldn't go 30+ mpg. My kids Saturn Vue with the same motor is in the mid 20's with considerably more weight and an auto tranny.
Looks like the slingshot could be a pretty fun ride!

It's gonna be very easy n little cost to get to 200hp,, that's where I'm gonna stay cause I want drivability.. No turbo req to get to 200 and you can get 300 w a turbo easily... The Solstice GXP n Saturn Red line had 260-70 hp stock and w just a chip n air filter got to 300+!! Lots of performance goodies for the 2.4 Eco Tech

Hmmm..kinda heavy. That's about 9.7lbs per HP....about the same as the 14' RT.
I was anticipating a bit less heft....

For sure! That motor has quite the performance list that's available.

I guess the real question is getting the power to the ground via the single wheel....

Read all about it
The news of the Slingshot has reached New Zealand, there was a small article with a photo in todays Drive news paper. They had obviously been trawling the websites because their opening words were is a car, a bike or a trike.
They also stated that they will be "rolling of the production line early next year".

Slingshot
No luggage space, apparently no way to hook-up a trailer, seats look like plastic?? Elbow dragging on the ground. Turns into a swimming pool in the rain. Looks like fun, huh?

First, you don't ride in the rain, unless you are caught out - - next, like any SxS, your entire torso is inside the cage, and then, it is not designed or intended to be a family sedan...

Why wouldn't you ride in the rain? Is it less capable than a motorcycle or spyder in rain?? I was sort of assuming the floors drained, maybe I'm wrong.
If a version came out that was closer to 40 mpg I'd be interested, if it's closer to the currently claimed 27ish from testers then eventually 1330 spyder for me.

Little underwhelmed at the performance. Over twice the weight of my RS-S and not twice the power. Maybe more after market so we'll see...but 1,700lbs? I don't know....

Based on comments by people who've actually been in one,,no one complained about a LACK OF PERFORMANCE... I think these things are gonna sell great!! Check out the most recent YouTube videos by people who were at the dealer rollout!!! Impressive

I was at a dealer today; they're showing a $2,000 rebate, plus a three-year warranty on the 2014 RTs...

Let them drive them a while. Not to mention I don't really take opinions from people on an unreleased product. The performance is going to be simple math.... Power to weight ratio. I'm sure it IS fun. I won't argue that. My Spyder is fun. But I feel it needs better performance and I'm sure I'd feel that way on a Slingshot. I think my main problem is that it's just heavier than I had expected. But..that's probably also why it starts at $20K and not $30K.
