Gas cap stuck
New spyder owner here 2014 rts, Trying to refuel with second tank of gas and cap just spins, It's like the tank is pressurized and want let cap unscrew. I live in Mississippi and it is very hot today but that shouldn't, have anything to do with cap. Anyone have any suggestion as a live 160 miles from dealer.

Push down hard when trying to remove it. Mine just did this recently for the first time I think it is heat related.

Not yet going to let it cool some and try again Hate to get a pair of channel locks ahold of a new gas cap. Tried putting pressure on cap as I turn it but still just clicks

You know this doesn't help my feeling about can am's reliability I've owned goldwings and Harley's and never had a gas cap issue. Read all about the problems the 2013's had and decided to go with 2014 because I thought they had sorted out all the 2013 issues but geez a gas cap. Glad I haven't sold my Harley yet.

Finally a resolution, took a pair of channellocks and laid a cloth rag over cap to keep from scratching any finishes around it a little light pressure on the sides of cap and it came off. Guess I will have to travel with a pair of channellocks with me until I get it back to dealer, Thanks guys for the help and maybe this will help someone else if they have this problem. Sorry about the above rant about goldwings and Harley's just a little flustered, Mike

Please forgive my ignorance in advance but....would it be possible to match up your current gas cap thread with one at a auto parts store? I mean isnt a ratcheting gas cap...the same as another ratcheting gas cap?

Try this..!!
squeeze the cap sides as you turn. This is happening a lot and the ratchet mechanism can break up. In most cases squeezing it works but you need to get a new cap anyway....

Would you have the opportunity to undertake this task?
When i get home I can sir. But seeing how I am surronded by water it is just a tad bit difficult at the moment

Be careful about matching gas caps from parts stores some are vented and some are not, you could possibly do damage to fuel system with the wrong one

It's not heat-related. Mine is stuck and it's 65 degrees out. never stuck during the hot summer.

Frozen tight?. The little things we all don't need. Being stranded without gas...not good.

Spinning gas cap
The gas cap on my '14 RTL was defective. There are little tabs on the inside for the ratcheting and they were too brittle and broke off. This is a known issue to the dealers and has been discussed here last year. When I took mine to the dealer, he was going to replace it with the cap on his floor model and he couldn't get that one off either. A sign of this problem is small pieces of black plastic around the filler (outside of gas cap) Dealer should replace...no questions asked.

A month ago in Florida the cap would not come off the 2012 RTL (7500 mi.) so we slowly pored a bottle of cold water over the cap. Came right off. Bought a new one and returned to the FROZEN north. We will see what happens.

Got mine off yesterday with BIG channellocks and a LOT of muscle! Going to find a Stant replacement at AutoZone.
