    Default Muffler "popping" noise

I'm a new Spyder owner, and I've noticed a loud "popping" noise if I don't shift just the way it likes. I have a 2008 SE5. Does anyone know if this is normal? If not how can I fix it? Thanks!

Is there an aftermarket exhaust on it? If there is, then that is probably why you are getting the popping. Check the air filter to see if the previous owner put in a K&N filter (it will be red in colour). If they did, then replace it with an OE air filter and see if that fixes the popping. They may also have a fuel controller on it and it may not be dialled in correctly. The popping is from the fuel mixture being a bit too lean. Unless the bike pops all the time I would not really worry about it.

    Default Let's see..!!

if you have the stock muffler then not likely they did any of the other changes. If you can have it hooked up to the buds system at your dealer there may be some stored code one of which is the o2 sensor. Others may have to do with vaccum lines. The stock muffler hides a lot so it may be that it is wearing out and the sounds are more noticeable...if it's not bad and you know how to shift so it doesn't pop you should be fine...

Time for new Y-pipe gaskets. The one on the right will likely be bad but replace both. Many folks have replaced the BRP gaskets with Honda gaskets because they last longer. Do a search of this site for Honda gaskets, y-pipe gaskets or something like that and the threads you find will give better details and the Honda part number.

What don't you like about the popping sounds? It is not damaging anything whatsoever.

Just stripped my exhaust to do this very job, here's what's left of the left side gasketImageUploadedByTapatalk1404653816.624037.jpg I would post the right sided one but it GONE here's the Honda one ImageUploadedByTapatalk1404654026.710803.jpg I seem to be missing the gasket that connects the Hindle to the Y pipe but I think I would struggle to get a gasket in there as it was pretty tight???

No gasket between the Y pipe and exhaust on the RS/GS.

Correct. Stock has one. Not the Hindle or any aftermarket that I can think of.

Doesn't matter what pipe you have on the GS/RS. They need 'Y' gaskets.

The gasket is in the joint behind the spring. There's one on the left side too.

    Thank you Wacky Dan!

Yes I have those Yazz thanks,in the manual there is a third gasket which is the one we were talking about. It is where the Y pipe joins the Hindle in front of the back wheel,on a stock pipe the gasket is there but not on the Hindle which I find strange ????

Its actually super common. I think almost all slip on mufflers are like that.
I wasn't all that thrilled about it either, which is why I used a stainless muffler band clamp around the joint when I did my HMF pipe.

Have dual Two Bros on mine so can't say about the Hindle. But, I believe in the Maintenance Manual first and foremost. A gasket in any form is there to stop leakage.

Have my Spyder jacked up and parts all over the place right now. When she's back together enough to start her up, will check for exaust leakage at the rear joint by the back tire.

Mine had a small leak there before I stripped it down,it is a tight fit so can't see how you could get a gasket in there

The problem is that the juice box pro only controls or modifies the closed loop signal at 40%+ throttle positions.

Are you talking about the rear most joint? Hope I don't find a leak there. Would be a pain getting that bolt off.

The Hindle and other slipons don't use a gasket, if you've got a leak there, try snugging it down some, if the leak stays, loosen it up and try some exhaust sealer when you put it back on.

Can't say for sure. My Spyder came with the Two Bros, put the Juice Box in because of backfiring and felt a little more pep once the K&N was put in.

Not looking forward to testing that joint.
