What should I offer for this 2009 RS
Local dealer has a 2009 RS SE-5 with just under 20,000 miles. Their asking price is just under $14k. I will probably test ride it this week, they offered. It looks to be in good overall shape and they have been a Spyder dealer for years, maybe since the spyder's inception.
Thanks,
Sean

Just got my 12 SE5 RSS with 1900 miles for 12,499 in south florida 2 weeks ago. From my research I think it was a really good deal tho. I'd think an 09 SE5 with 20k miles could be had for 10-12k depending on condition and extra accessories.

Ok, good to know. Also, what about a warranty? Is there one available for a 2009, and if so is it worth it?

I have seen 09 sell for $8500 and 12 sell for $10,000 and a correction from above, the dealer will only have service info if it was done by a Canam dealer. If routine maintenance was done by the owner, that will not be on the service history log.

A factory warranty is probably out of the question. Aftermarket warranties can be a crap shoot. Here, the service history is a big deal as well as a competent servicing dealer. Locals can fill you in about recommendations where to service your .

Little checking..!!
go online and check Kelley blue book and NADA for your area. They will give you the range. Warranty has run out but maybe a outside source..

in the last 7 months we've bought two 2013's brand new out of the crate for 13200 and 14495. The first is my wifes RS SE5 and the other is my 1 week old RSS SM5. Got them from Louis Powersports in Greenville TX. Two of our friends also bought some and another should be on his way back to Houston now with one.
Please research prior to making your purchase.

Wow! great info. I will definitely do a little more digging; and Bluenight, that's quite the offer. If this doesn't work out I will definitely consider your offer.

Dude back in July 2012 I bought a used 2009 GS with 4000 miles, this was
from a dealer in Delaware , the dealer asking price was 14,000, I offered
$12K and the deal was done, now have over 20,000 miles with no issues.
the bike also came with a Best Warranty good till march 2015.
So shop around there are much better deals out there.

Those craig's list deals are much better looking. I too agree the dealer is way high on the price. I'm in the same basic area and I recently sold my 08 GS SM5 and it was a tough sell that went for way less than I was hoping for and sold to an out of state buyer who paid for shipping.

Take advantage of the test ride, and then walk away and buy elsewhere. That's way too much money, especially with the 2015 Spyders getting ready to come out really soon (around Sept). If BRP makes any significant mods to the RS/ST lines in 2015, then that '09 drops even further in value.

Just for conversation sake, how do I go about buying from a private party if I want my bank to finance? I've always purchased through a dealer.

Nils, I saw a white RT with a group of motorcycles at the bottom of Cuesta Grade on Southbound Hwy 101, was that you? We were northbound......
We only went as far north as Atascadero then hit Hwy 46 over to Hwy 1- 98 degrees on 101, 68 degrees on Hwy 1, but still a great ride.
