I was taught to write so that when it was read the reader could envision/imagine me speaking to them.
When I speak you cannot tell how I am spelling the words. Most people only look at the first and last letters of most words anyway.
You can put me on the who cares list.
A bigger issue for me is the guy who uses lots of different colors, dots, and icons in his posts, for me it makes them hard to read. But because his posts
have mostly good information in them I put up with it without complaint.
In the big scheme of things all the above is meaningless, I would rather spend my energy on other things.

Interesting..!!
was never good in spelling or grammer in any language. Now I want to get it right and now is when no one cares... Punctuation is what lets the reader know how you mean what you say, your tone etc. Was never good at that either. I feel the urgency of getting things tweeted and online is destroying all of it. As I hear all the time now "you know what I mean"...well I don't....

I was born here in the USA and I still make mistakes with the English language
There are many people on here from other countries that use English as their second language.
I would like to see all of you use there language on here without making mistakes.
I feel this thread is an insult to people who are trying to communicate with everyone.
I don't care who gets made at me for saying this because I do try to not offend anyone, but I feel you could offend people who are not as familiar with American English
I know people from many countries and sometimes have trouble understanding what they are saying, but I always realize that if they were to communicate in their native language I would not understand them at all.

That should have been "mad"
that nobody should make fun of how people spell. Sometimes people misspell words (I have), sometimes people do not catch misspelled words (I have), sometimes people decide to use a different word but do not remove the other (I have), and some people do not catch that they used the wrong word (I have). I do re-read my posts before I hit send, and sometimes I have to go back to edit them. Yet, I will never put down someone who tries their best, and makes a mistake (unless I am teasing them).
There are several co-workers at my site that have come to the US from other countries. A co-worker of mine does not like another, and make fun of him calling him stupid because of using the wrong word (it was funny). I asked him how many languages he knew? He replied one, I said that M***o knew two, so who is smarter?
Have post like these come up before? Yes. Will they come up again? Yes. What purpose do they serve? Nothing but to keep people from posting for fear of being teased.
PS. Please forgive any spelling errors in this post, and any future posts

A great thread for discussion purposes for sure. I have always believed in live and let live when it comes to issues about how a person spells a word.
We have one of the most difficult languages to both speak and write. It is easy to get caught up in the wrong spelling.
I would neither correct or chide a person for a spelling glitch. Most of the time we can figure out what they mean.
For myself, I try to be as accurate as a college professor should be. Sometimes, when re-reading threads, I find errors that slipped by me the first time. That is what the "edit" button is for--if I am in the mood.
Less than perfect spelling is something I see a lot of these days. Try grading a stack of accounting papers some time Yes, I dock them for the bad stuff. But, that is a whole different subject from the OP's post.
Lets get along and have some fun, rather than stirring up a hornet's nest if possible.

Overall I agree with the OP but then I was in the journalistic profession for 44 years.
I have to resist the impulse to post a tart reply to some of the more obvious spelling and grammar mistakes.
We ought to welcome the contribution to the site.
Imagine how all our Canadian members feel when they see obvious (to them) errors like..... check; honor; neighbor, etc.

Thank you Blue Star
You are correct
It should have been Mad not Made
I even read my post and didn't see it
Probably because I was angry
My whole point is that not everyone has the same education and many have not even finished grade school
I know my dad [89 years old ] only went to 9th grade, but he is still not stupid

Spelling and words
I found this thread interesting. I have been speaking English for most of seventy plus years, at first I only spoke goo! goo! Gaa! and WaaaaH!!!.
My 86 year old mother-in-law speaks three languages and my wife of unspecified age speaks two. We sometimes discuss the difficulty of the English language. I have heard it said that English, spoken as Americans speak it, is the most difficult language on earth to learn.
In a forum like this one, I have no problem with misspelling and incorrect usage. People here are communicating with peers, as if speaking.
If we are talking face to face we don't know if the speaker knows how to spell what they say.
My pet peeve in this area is reading something that was written for publication, usually compensated, that hasn't been proofed. If you are being paid to write, you really should take the time to read and correct spelling and word usage.
But, that's just me.

SpyderLovers.com was set up to help us better enjoy our new Spyders. I registered when we got our new 2008 GS SE5. We were glad to have a place to search for help with our Spyders. How one spelled a word wasn't as important as what one had to say. Many, myself included, sponged up as much as we could...knowing that one day on a trip, something we read could be the key to get us back home. If you're looking for perfection, you may want to consider finding a site with more perfect grammar. If you want to criticize us for the way we spell you are wasting your time trying and our time if we read your post.

I've been taking this thread as just good natured fun and teasing each other. If I'm wrong, that will be a new experience for me. I've never been wrong previously. Seriously. Never.
