No, have not had that happen. You can call Garmin toll free and a tech can walk you through it.

Yes, if you select a state that is not programmed into your maps. My Zumo 550 is an older unit and does not have enough storage space to load the entire US into the unit. Instead I selected the lower 49 states SE region, which leaves a large portion of the US out. You can add an SD card to load other states. I don't know if you have all 50 loaded, but this is what happens with mine.

My 660 works fine. Like Roger says, I don't think it's the friendliest interface, but my buddy has the BMW equivalent of it and he's got it down to the point that he can even select his routes, so it must be me. I'm not "Patient" with things like that

I have the same happen. Requiring the Canadian Maps. I normally load Canada and Border states. When I take a ride down to LA or MO the states are not there. You can load them ALL onto your Basecamp (or Mapsource) and then when you transfer routes to the garmin make sure that you check the box that says "Maps". Make sure that you highlight all of the maps that you want on your Garmin while you are in Basecamp or Mapsource.
