Ultimate seat vs factory Comfort seat vs stock seat - help
Hello Spyder Lovers !
I'm a 2 month owner of a new 2014 RT and really love it. Took the bike to Spyderfest (solo) and have been putting miles on as the weather holds out. My question: I need to replace the seat with either a factory comfort seat or an Ultimate seat. I' 5' 11" at about 250lbs. The factory seat is just plain uncomfortable after 100 miles and really hurts at 150 miles. Which seat would you recommend ? My dealer will give me a great deal on the factory comfort seat, but I'm willing to pay if the Ultimate seat is better. Bought a new sheepskin at Spyderfest, helped a little, but will not cure what is wrong. Your opinions and guidance are appreciated. DubuqueSpyderRyder

I have to comfort seat & would recommend it along with the tri-axis bars make a big difference.
I have had many seats on my previous spyders but on my 2014 RTS I asked the same question a couple of months ago. I chose the Ultimate seat and am very pleased with it. On the way to spyderfest I did 900 miles in one day and my butt felt great as to one of the others guys riding with me has a stock seat and he was complaining throughout the trip about his butt. LOL.
i read somewhere on here that the stock seat is good for about an hour or so. The Ultimate Seat is good for at least 5 hours. After purchasing the Ultimate Seat last week @ Spyderfest I'd agree that it is a great investment. Might want to consider the passenger arm rest as well. My wife really likes them.
they should have test rydes for the many seats available. I have the comfort seat on our RS and like it, thing is I have not had any of the others. Many may be in the same position. They are expensive but if your getting a good deal from your dealer might be the way to go...

Thanks spyder-dude, exactly my problem. I'm leaning towards the Ultimate seat.

I did notice a couple of Spyder's at the recent Spyderfest with high dollar custom seats - some with Sheepskin covers -- and they had Air Hawk cushions installed over them. This might be a lower cost option to try - check out the prices on Amazon.com -- and get the large, touring size. Yes, I have one on my Corbin seat.
Just a thought.

it is what it is - 2014 Black RT-S - Baja Ron Anti-Sway bar, lots of LEDs, Spyderpops Skid Plate, Twisted Sister HID Driving Lights, Tricled 2nd, 3rd & 4th brake lights, F4 Customs vented windshield, Lamonster highway pegs, Ultimate Tall Boy seat, Utopia backrest
You should have said something on the ride down you could have tried my comfort seat. Since we are about the same height and weight I would go with the ultimate seat. The comfort seat puts you back about 2" and you would find out that is to far away from handle bars, after a couple hour I start getting a pain between my shoulder blades.
With out a doubt it is the Ultimate seat, I don't know if Diamond or Harto makes one for the Spyder but they would be a consideration also. Corbin's tend to be very stiff in the beginning. Checked Hartco web site and they offer a seat for the Spyder custom made to individual specifications.
I'm undecided between Corbin and Ultimate. My problem is I can't try them out before buying. Corbin has heat which is nice here in the N/E. Also looking for a dealer that discounts them. From what I am looking at they run $1250- $1450, plus shipping. Tom
Baloo is my name. Spyders are my game. Well, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, yes, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, I mean a doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee-dee-doo. And, well, now. Ha ha! What have we here?
Tried the airhawk when I had my Victory. Never got comfortable with it. Tom

If you don't like it, call them to arrange to ship it back. However, I think you'd have to pay the shipping cost.
I was just ready to pull the trigger on the Ultimate as well and decided to try a gel insert first. It cost under $100 shipped. If it doesn't work, I'll order the ultimate...looks like a great seat backed by a good company with lots of positive reviews.
Here's a pic of the gel I just put in...waiting on the cover to be embroidered
I had a comfort seat on my 2011 RT and added a Utopia backrest. It was pretty comfortable but there was no room for a passenger so I found the Ultimate Tall Boy, with the backrest and have no regrets at all - over 20K miles on it. It is so good that I put one on my Vulcan 900. \
Corbin makes a nice seat and Lamont swears by them. To me, they were a little hard but there is a lot of me for the seat to support ....

Was all ready to purchase the Ultimate Seat when I found out from them my BRP backrest won't work with it. Having spent about $450 for that backrest from BRP I have to re-think what I will do. I'm already using an Airhawk but just not cutting it with the standard RT seat. Might have to try a gel pad. Hate to try and sell the BRP backrest as it works great and I already have a lot invested in it. Why don't these seat manufacturers make their seats compatible with other manufacturers backrests?
