Default Searching for an RT / RTS - 2013 or 2014

Hello all. I am new to the forum. My father purchased a 2013 ST Limited. I'm now interested in purchasing an RT model for myself. I'd like to give you all the info I know so far and see what you think.

All are plus sales tax. The dealer said they would not charge prep or freight
    2013 RT $19,000
    2013 RTS $21,500
    2014 RT $21,700
    2014 RTS $25,000

Are these good prices? I'm seeing that some paid less for the 13 RTS back in the fall.

After reading about how great the 14's are, I'm thinking I may just go with the 14' RT.

Will I be upset I didn't get the air suspension? I do like a smooth ride.

The salesman said to wait till May 1st to see if new promotions come out but I don't want to lose the additional 2 year warranty.

    Thank you!

    Joe

The 2 year additional extended warranty has been an ongoing promotion for a couple of years now, from what I have seen. The local dealer here quoted me $17,700 for a new '13 RT base machine out of the crate. He claimed that was no markup for him, he just wanted to sell me a machine rather than seeing me buy one half way across the country off Craigslist. Because of that the guy in WI dropped his price for a '13 RT with 600 miles to $14,000. I bought it. That was back in November, when his car was getting cold and snowed on parked outside while the RT, which he didn't have time to ride, sat in a nice dry garage!

If the dealer really, really, wants to sell you a '13 he can shave upwards of another grand off those prices. The rebate on the '13s may increase May 1. My dealer thought they would after the '14s started to be delivered but it didn't. The current rebate, since last fall, on the '13 base RT is $2000.

The auto adjusting air suspension would be good if you are going to ride one up and two up, both, a lot. If you're always one up, or always 2 up, then it's value is probably diminished somewhat. All the RTs have air suspension. The difference is how the pressure is adjusted, air hose or on board compressor.

    Default I would only consider a '14

HUGE diff with the 1330 and other upgrades BRP did on '14. No comparison. I ryde a lot and the 1330 is amazing. But you need to decide what will serve you best..and do it. Spyders are a great ryde. Have fun with the process and enjoy whichever one you settle on. Check pricing at Pitbull Powersports in Springfield, MO. They are the number 1 dealer of Spyders..that honor comes for a reason. BRP rolled in 3 big semi's and support staff for Spyderfest 2014..which is the result of that dealership.

    You'll love the 2013!
But you'll fall, "head over heels; how did I ever live without you?" love with the 2014!
They honestly are that much better...
The engine makes it's power in the rev band in a more comfortable spot.
The six speed transmission is smoother, yields MUCH lower cruising rpm levels, and you don't need to worry about burning clutch plates.
The charging system is almost double the capacity
The cooling system IS double the capacity.
The new sound system speakers are better
The fuel gauge is more accurate...

Almost bought the 13 RT limited, then rode the 14 RT back to back and the rebate went out the window and bought the base 14 RT and am glad I did. It had enough luxuries for me and the torque and sixth gear was the clincher.

Come on Bob, 13 to 14 the speakers and radio are the same part number. As are the gauges and the fuel sending unit. The VERY few 13s have ever overheated, the cooling sytem is not undersized for the engine. The few that did have a defect.

Yes teh 14s do have improvements, but no need to strech the truth. The 13s have enough bad publicity already.

    I ain't lying; I'm telling you what I've experienced...
The part numbers may be the same; who's to say that they haven't improved the part?
The rear speakers are much clearer...(My Missus gives that report)
The analog fuel gauge is MUCH more accurate... (That's my department)

Go try one; prove me wrong!

Maybe because the engine is quieter, you can hear the radio better?

Bob, how does the ride compare without elkas and rons sway bar? Do you think these items are needed?

The engine IS a lot quieter out at highway speeds...
    The handling??
I'm still trying to decide on that one...
    It's AWFUL darn good.
My 2010 with Elkas and RonBar in place was pretty close to it, but I'm thinking that the 2014 is just soft enough, to be comfortable, yet sharp enough, to be fun in thw twisties!

But it's really too soon to tell!

Yes Bob, I get it. You REALLY like your 14. And we are all REALLY happy for you.

On the other hand, Louise and I are going to spend the 17,000 we saved on (2) 2013s and go on vacation, remodel a bathroom and .....

Enjoy your bike. I know I would. We all makes our choices, we all live with them.

What a great problem to try and solve. All the prices look pretty good. Any fine tuning you can make will only be better. I always caution to buy from a dealer that will give you good service. Sometimes, you pay a little more for that.

RE: 2013 vs. 2014. I am a very conservative CPA type. Have heard and read all the arguments pro and con. I have been waiting for the bigger engine since 2008 and it finally shows up in 2014. Goodbye 2010 and hello 2014. The money changed hands yesterday and now I am waiting for it to show up in my driveway. PS. I like a few extra doo dads so went with the RTS instead of the base, so I won't have to farkle too much.

Wow! I appreciate the help you've all offered me. I didn't have a chance to write back until just now.

I'm leaning towards the 14' RT. I just spoke with another dealer and they said that $21,500 for the RT is not even close to possible. Ill be contacting the dealer in MO right now!

I'll let ya know what happens. Hope to have one for the weekend!

    Default Dealer reply

I just hung up with Pit Bull in MO. Here are the options-

    2013 RT Limited 700 miles, just traded in towards a 14'. $21,900
    2014 RT $23,500

I spoke to another dealer in NJ. They said $22,800 is the lowest on the 2014 RT.

I'm going to stop by the dealer tonight that told me to leave a deposit for the 14' RT for $21,500. I'll keep you all updated.

    $21,500 is for a 2014 RT SE6

I went to Cross Bay Motorsports to leave my deposit. The owner was not in but left detailed notes of what we spoke about over the phone.

    21500 includes freight, prep,
    taxes and DMV are additional.
