Default Who is actually following the 3,000 mile "break in"

recommendations? I have to be honest, I am unsure with todays modern assembly techniques, quality parts and lubricants why BRP has the 3,000 mile break in. I can see no full throttle and varying the RPMs for 500-600 miles, but 3,000 really? I just thought I would garner the thoughts from those of you riding the 14's.-Thanks.
    Lets ride!!!!

I spoke with my "Tech", at the dealership...
He said that the first oil change and check-up at 3,000 miles is fine...
Just don't run the bike "WFO" during the first 600 miles.

Also of the opinion to be "gentle" during the first 500-600 miles. Similar to all other vehicles.

"Gentle" to me, means do not red line or beat the heck out of the Spyder. Vary the speeds, shift a lot, and just let all the parts get worn in good. Tires and brakes also need about 350 miles to get set in.

Beyond 500 miles or so, I gradually build up the routine until I drive in the "normal" mode.

I never red line or push the to the limits--but that is just me.

I did an oil change, but not filter, at about 1500 mi with Castrol Actevo Blend 10-40 (which some say is what BRP oil is), and again yesterday at 3000 with Amsoil and new filter. The Castrol was much darker than I expected. I don't intend to use it again.

    Default Have to agree..!!

I have always broken in my vehicles the same....drive the way I normally drive with the exception of extended constant speeds. All have run great lasted for ever and given me no problems. If the engine is not settled in by 600 miles it never will be. They are factory tested and if they didn't blow then they won't now...thats my way anyway....

I picked up my Spyder and immediately left on a 300 mile ride. I told my husband to lead so that I could vary my speed behind him. He took this to mean he should vary his speed too, so we ran between 75 & 90 mph. I did not use the cruise for that trip. My oil was also very clean when I changed it.

I agree. Run it like you brung it. I have read extreme break in is as good/better than the gentle touch.

Everything is fine with what we tried.
Hope your new Spyder is treating you well.

I followed every rule (even reading the warning card before attempting to start the Spyder), i never went over the speed limit, i stayed in the slow lane all the time.

That's my story and i am sticking with it.

    (BRP is watching)

We have been following the break in procedure and it's hard to do but when it's over
and been serviced I'm going to grip-it and rip-it and see what this thing's got!

I'm being a good boy. Up and down in speeds. No hard starts, or braking. Always let it warm up a few minutes before taking off. Tom

I'm being a good boy too. Following the recommendations from BRP is tough, but lucky for me I also have a two wheeler that I can channel my inner Jorge Lorenzo to.

I got to about 500 mile, before I did bounce it off the rev-limiter in second gear once...
    Or was it third??

I don't like the new gauge faces...
On my 2010; I could clearly see the needle sweep toward redline...
Now; it's ALL Orange! Who can see that little white line, that denotes where the fun stops?
