Appreciate the vote of confidence displayed in the responses of fellow Spyder riders. The journey from Kissimmee, FL to Pensacola, FL is probably a good 8 hour drive in a car and 10 hours on a bike. Maybe I will just take a leap of faith and drive it back. After all, what is the worse that can happen??

If you are really concerned let me know ( I have made that trip several times) I would ride half way back to your place as an escort for you to be sure you are comfortable then return home. That is an easy day trip for me...
Its easier on the 2014 than it has ever been before since the comfort factor has improved even more.. Three of us rode from here (orlando) to Thibodaux LA recently in one day and that is 200 miles past your place....

I bought a 2010 in 2010 had never riden a spider before. When the teck went over all the controles on it the day I took delivery he ask if I have riden one before I said no. I told him I had 60 miles to learn. Did not have any problems getting home just took my time to get use to the feel of it!!!!!! You will be alright just take you time !!!!!

I traded my Harley Electra Glide last year at Bike Week in Myrtle Beach and had a 5 minute class from the salesman and rode it for a week and also backe home. Just go for it.

I just got my bike from them a week ago Wednesday. Drove it back from Orlando to Jacksonville. Not quite the same distance but other than a demo ride a couple of years ago I had not been on one. They don't have much of a parking lot for driving in but you can exit the parking lot and drive on some mixed use streets with little traffic behind their facility. I drove around for 10 -15 minutes to get used to the controls and then hit the road. It took forever to get out of Orlando. Be prepared for heavy traffic. My plan was to stick to back roads to become comfortable but by the time I saw I-4 i was ready to start moving. If you aren't used to it I would recommend you break it into a two day drive. Pen is a hike from Orlando. I got to the dealer at around 12:30 and it was about 3:30 before I left. Since I am a newbie, I'm sure the long time riders can give you lots of tips but the biggest I can offer is to relax. You don't have to force the steering and if you are tense it may feel like it is wandering but it is actually you pushing. Another thing is gloves with padded palms unless you can convince yourself not to have a death grip. Since they recommend no cruise control for the break in your hand can get tired. My thumb and first two fingers felt like they were falling asleep. I relaxed my grip which helped and my understanding is the palm padding will help as well (I only had thin leather gloves). Once you get going it will be hard to convince yourself to stop and take a break because you know you will only have to jump back in traffic again but you need to stop for hydration and to relax your muscles. I say go for it as it will make for a great first story and by the time you get home you will know your new bike and it will be well on the road to broken in.

I think it would be doable in a two day trip on backs road. A lot of people do not realized how big FLA is. I was stationed in FT Walton Beach in the late fifties. Got food posion in P Cola in 58.

If you still want to trailer it and have a useable tow vehicle, almost any mid "landscape" trailer will work, Just watch loading /ramp angle

Did you know there is a city called Cadillac in Michigan and also a Cadillac, Illinois? Well, I didn't! But, found out the difference in a hurry when I bought my '13 RTS on ebay, assuming the seller was in Michigan. They weren't. The deal was so good, it could have been located in Timbuctoo and I wouldn't have cared.
We live in Ohio, 2 hours from Cad, Mich, but 8 hrs. from the Illini one. So, I took a friend with me and we shared driving the new to us Spydie back to Ohio. Went 2 lane all the way, and by the time we arrived, we both knew how to handle the bike. It is different, and loosening the grip is key, as others have mentioned. Getting used to the controls and foot braking also has to be adjusted for, but so glad I did it that way. We had a trailer we could have taken with us instead-glad we didn't.

an experienced rider? I know the Hurt M/C Study is 40 years old now, but I believe the findings still apply. One of the danger areas is an experienced rider on an unfamiliar bike. My advice? Find a rider to go with you and follow him using the MSF 1 second rule. Lot more to say, but I will cut it off here.

Took the train from Montana to Portland, Or. road for the first time ever a big bike...1100 miles home....you'll be fine...just relax.....

You'll be just fine driving it home. Take a few minutes in their parking lot to get the hang of it and you'll be good to go. It's not as difficult as you think.

The 2014 RT- Is a sweet ride. Ride it for a short time to get a feel for it in a parking lot. I got my first one in LA Cal and drove it to SF Ca. Over six hundred miles. Never even test drove one first. First 25 miles it scared me. Second 25 miles got the hang of cornering. Now 10,000 mile later I'm buying a 2014 too. Enjoy and join a club.

Do yourself a favor and make the trip home two days. Do not rush and enjoy it. If you can afford a Spyder you certainly can afford a hotel room for one night. Life is short, don't be in any hurry to end it.
