    I thought about it, but having the JT air filter, I opted for the Akrapovic instead.

    Hoping they will work together without a fuel controller.

    were you thinking like me ,just gut the cat? It would be much cheaper than replacing the whole thing with a bypass.

    Yes, I was thinking just gut one. But after seeing some pics of the inside, it is not as simple as knocking the guts out and pouring the dust in the bin.

    Yeah, I was thinking it was like the old car converters, but it's not quite.

    Use to be able to just punch those out.

    Of course, if you do gut your cat, it's pretty irreversible and, I'd bet, if you do need it later for changing emissions regs, a replacement would cost a pretty penny.

    I gutted the ceramic honeycomb out of a cars cat a long time ago and although it worked quite well it had an annoying "pinging" sound from the exhaust expanding into basically an empty sheet metal can. I am not sure of the design of the spyders cat but that is definitely not the sound I want coming from my bikes exhaust.     Also gutting the cat on a car is still more restrictive then a straight pipe. Gutting the cat is cheaper if you don't wanna buy the bypass but If the inspection stations actually start emission testing these to replace the converter is over a $800 part. Not sure about everywhere else Delaware doesn't probe the exhaust on newer cars not sure about bikes but there is ways to tell if a cat is working.

    Yes, that was my hope. If I mess up a spare, I can always put back the original. If I mess up my only cat converter or the bike starts throwing codes, I would be in trouble.

    From pics on another thread I learned the Cat has two chambers. The exhaust enters the rear chamber through the dual pipes. Then turns to go forward and through the catalyst and into the front chamber. It then turns around again and exits the cat through a single pipe.

    The actual catalyst is quite small compared to the size of the converter.
