UURG new rear tire
8500 miles and I need a new rear tire. Bald down the center. Frustrating because tire pressure and oil level are the two things I try to stay on top of. I have been running 2lbs over because I like the ride. must have overfilled at some time and didn't notice. Just a word to all check tire pressure can be expensive not to.

It can also be due to ballooning of the thin-carcass tire at freeway speeds.

75 or 80 mph for extended time? I usually travel 65 to 75 on the hiways around here. Could this be the cause? If so what do I do? Car tire for rear?

Probably the most popular replacement for the rear would be Kumho 225/50R 15

My back tire is like that also but I have over 25k miles on them,so I'm not complaining. I use Ride on in my tires and I believe that's the difference.

Ha a new Kumho 22550R15 installed today
I had almost 8600 miles on the oem and was told I had maybe another 1000 miles left, but with a 750 mile round trip to Spyderfest coming up diecided to go ahead and replace it. I was already at the shop and had the tire with me, so went ahead. I didn't notice an difference in handling on the 30+ mile return trip. Louis Power Sports in Greenville, TX put it on for me, I can't say enough good things about these guys, it's where I bought my RTS and they hey have done all my service work.

Speeds over 50-60 mph will increase rear tire center wear due to ballooning. Different tire pressures may aggravate this problem...especially low tire pressures from what I have seen. Lots of straight roads also seem to wear the center more.....or at least wear the sides less.

I also have noticed that the rear tire wears extremely fast on my 2013 RT. I ordered a new Kumho at 7500 but haven't put it on yet. I plan on using balance beads (worked well on my Royal Star Venture). What tire pressure is recommended for the pc tire...same as OEM or different?

I mentioned this before, I got 17K on my stock tire then changed to the Kumo, it wore like iron but hydroplaned way too easy. I live in the great northwest so wet road performance is paramount.

Rear tire change
Just changed my rear tire to a Kuhmo from the OEM Kenda. Got the 38500 kilometres out of it. I am using ride-on with the new tire.

Depending on conditions, 8500 miles on the stock Kenda tire is not too bad. I got 9500 miles on my original rear tire and 7500 on the second one although it wasn't completely worn out when I changed it. Changed to a Kumho and got over 14,000 on the first one, working on a second. Remember that the original Kenda is technically a motorcycle tire with softer compound and a more flexible sidewall than a car tire. Lots of GoldWing and BMW riders would be happy to get 8500 miles on a rear tire. I know I would have on my BMW.

rear tire wear
I just changed my rear last weekend. Been getting 12,000 to 13,000 on stock tire. All wore in the center. When they get to the wear bars they go fast. I ride 60-65 most of the time. I ride 2011 rt-s.

Lucky..!!
I guess. Have 18,000 miles on my Kenda and still have not reached the wear limit. Center groove is gone but still have a bit left to get to the wear bars. Don't do a lot of freeways but when I do it is 80-85 mph and average 60 on the back roads twisties and hills. Mostly double up but do have an RS...

rear tire
I got 15,000 on my original rear tire , center wore out first , I tried putting 20 lbs. of air instead of 28 lbs. of air , it still wore in the center. Going to change the tire next week. Going to put on a KUMHO this time.

We got 8700 on the Kenda, still had some tread but wouldn't make it through inspection. Put on a Michelin Primacy 215-60-15. The wife says she notices no difference from the Kenda , I think it rides a little better. My two wheeler wore out the back tire in 4600 miles.

Interesting you say that. I got upwards of 18,000 miles on the rear and 16,000 on the front on my 2005 Goldwing. All were Dunlop Elites. I was expecting the Spyder to do better since there's no tire leaning.
