Exclamation Dead Spyder need some help.

Finally got a nice day and I'm not at work. Got the spyder out after a long winter nap and no joy. Turn the key and run switch on and everything sounds and looks normal. Hit the mode button, foot on the brake, hit the start button, electrical sounding pop and everything resets. 2012 RTL
    1. I keep it on a battery tender all winter. Checked the battery 11.7 volts
    2. checked all the relays in the frunk remove and re-seat.

Any ideas before I try to figure out how to get it to the dealer?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Or a good solid charge, not a tender.

As said, try another battery, charge and check yours, or just replace it.

Without a good battery, the electronics and systems may not keep up, which will or could pose as other problems.

    All the best with it.

    Default Little checking..!!

you can jump start it and go for a long ryde to charge the battery. Just don't turn it off for a good while. It is the battery but the qyestion now is is it shot or just need charging. They tend to last 3-7 years some beyond some less depending on the electrical add ons abd use. Once charged you can have it tested...good luck..

If the battery was at 11.7 volts for a long time it is probably in need of replacement. It may take a full charge but it may not have a lot of storage capacity left.

Low tech Harley started right up.

So now the rest of the story.....
I think the battery is just low. I have another charger. I hooked it up long enough to see if that was the problem, that was it. So then I start looking around to try to figure out why the tender didn't keep it up over the winter. Well some dummy unplugged the tender about 3 weeks ago so that he could plug in the charger for his drill. So the spyder has NOT been on the tender for 3 weeks or so. I have a motorcycle charger on it now. Guess we'll see.

    Default It lives!!!

Let it charge since this morning and it started right up. All better now. Thanks for the advice. I've never seen a low battery make things act like the Spyder was acting. I know now thanks to SL. Thanks all.

Just to to clarify, you charge it w a regular charger right?

I don't see a tender bringing it back to life.

    Glad you got it fixed.

These critters are pretty fussy about getting the right amount of juce... A low battery will make all sorts of fault codes pop up to scare you!

A lot of them will reference the D.P.S., aince it's about the largest single-draw of power on the bike
.I'm glad to hearthat a good dose of electricty; was all that was needed!

Usually with the Spyder, 12.4 is about the lowest charge it will take to start up. @ 12 volts a battery is considered fully discharged. 12.4 is a low charge. 12.9 is good, 13 is better. Below 12 is dead.

It is a motorcycle charger. I think it is 1.5 amp. Once it sees the battery is charge it switches to maintain.

That is good to know. I thought a 12 volt battery would be fully charged at 12. Learn something new everyday. Thanks.

If the battery is good,3 weeks of no charging should effect it.

I have had my Harley and wifes Spyder unplugged for months. They both started easily.

We have this thing here in Illinois called Winter, where we put our Spyders away in the back of the garage and don't ride them for months.

BRP's spec is 12.7 or higher for a fully charged battery in good condition, several hours after removing from the charger.

He's lucky if it was a spyder. I have other two wheelers, some will start after months of being idle without a tender and others need the tender. Some bikes have more electronics running in the background such as the spyder and others don't.

With it running it should be about 14 volts checking it with a meter.
