I think for most it is not to gain speed but to deal with the heat issues.

And sound and weight. Removing the cat adds to the noise and makes things a bit lighter

Lets look at this realistically...........how many bikes out there have only headers on? MANY MANY MANY 100,000s whats the first thing most twin air cooled guys do when they buy a bike? Change the exhaust.
Now I have seen and even heard of personally only three in my life that even got ticket for excessive noise let alone CAT removal................
I think some of you have a "The sky is falling mentality." when the feds have time to mess with me for replacing my CAT we all have much bigger problems than uncomfortable heat issue with this machine MUCH BIGGER.......
omitting the first sentence; I most fully agree with the sentiments expressed. We will all have other MAJOR concerns that will make emission tampering look like very small potatoes indeed!!!!

There are a lot of "IF's" and "BUT's" on this subject and one may never know what the outcome would be. Heck my dealer installs Power Commander systems on spyders, would you not think that could also affect the warranty? But what would be the case if it's "dealer installed" then what???
Sold my 14 RTS went back to 2 wheels.

My dealer does too. I'd imagine they would warranty any damage but would not be able to warranty any of the aftermarket components themselves.
We all know that most add on components and tuners if done correctly actually help, not hurt.

Your information is outdated. http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/roadbike/420f03045.pdf. In the linked paper they estimated that when the 2010 standards took effect 50% of motorcycles would have catalytic converters.

I would strongly guess that a cat bypass for the ST and RS are the same for 2013's.

my dealer had no problems taking my money to remove the cat and installing my cat -bypass -they told me, because of the known heat issues-they stand behind this mod- no warranty issues.
of all the mcy I have ever owned or even heard of this is the first to have a cat. I think maybe BMW mcy have them because my friend owns one and heard him talking of taking it off one day.
That is great that your dealer installed yours.

I will absolutely agree with you, that the chances of getting caught are very small... tiny, actually. But the laws are on the books, and the chance is always there...

HD started using catalytic converters in all their bikes in 2010. Some Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and Honda motorcycles use catalytic converters. So, yes, there are bikes in Texas and Oklahoma with catalytic converters.

there are two things that most Harley owners do when they buy a bike;
1.) Install aftermarket exhaust replacing the CAT.
2.) Install a new aftermarket seat.

Any word on Cat Bypass
Any word on from on a Cat Bypass? I am really interested, at Spyderfeast seeing some after market exhaust I want to keep my stock exhaust but have a deeper louder sound. After reading posts about Cat bypass I am even more interested for the heat issues.

I am just wondering..........
I see a lot of talk here about the cat bypass pipe and am wondering
doesn't offering for sale and or installing something that is federally
mandated to be on a vehicle, car, bike or trike and subject to inspection
like here in California for smog tests ( not on motorcycles) opening
the mfg. and installer up for prosecution by the law makers?
I know I have removed the cat on some of my cars in the past but
since the BAR here in California started to lock folks up for it I don't do it
any more and besides we have a smog inspection here that is much
tougher than all the other states so they do check, my guess is it will
not be long before you will need to have the motorcycles and such inspected
as well.
Just wondering.... what others think... "some times I really dislike big brother"

All they have to do is put a disclaimer on it that it is for off road use only and as long as they do not install it and see them drive away on the street the supplier is good.

I installed the the cat-bypass pipe to see if there was a difference in the heat, gas mileage and low-end torque. This is only a test. I don't know how long this test will take, but it could take a while, maybe years to come to a conclusion. This is only a test. By the way, I did retain the OEM Cat and will conclude the test upon the sale of the RT and return it to stock. This is only a test.

Didn't the Hindle come with one of those, "For off-Road use only" disclaimers?

Disclaimer ???
I am not quite sure that is the fix all on the mfg. just saying not for highway use, last year I was reading in Rider Magazine and the newspaperabout one of the major manufactures of after market exhaust systems for motorcycles being nailed for several hundred thousand dollars and having to recall all the ones that did not meet the federal regs. and refund the money
