Cool 2016 and despite all of the NASTY things .......

......that have happened to me this year, after showing Bob Denman some shots of curiously named British streets
I decided to hop on the F3 and visit Ightham, a village near to me, to take pics for all of you!
so I'll have to start with "Busty Lane "! Click on the pics!!

Cool So now we're in 2017 and I have a GoPro Hero3 Black!

.....actually I've had it for a while but late last year I've fitted a RAM ball mount supplied by the
Lamonster Garage. Here is some footage from a couple of months back.
We start out heading west from the village of Offham and I'll post the map that applies to this little run
    at the end.

I really have enjoyed your videos of the roads and Towns.
I have noticed several differences from what we have over here:
There don't seem to be any guardrails along the roads.
There is virtually no shoulder along the roads

Over here: they "fence us in" pretty well. It keeps the dumb ones from piling into the trees!

Did you notice parked cars parking in the opposite direction of traffic? I don't know how it is in other states; but, in NYS you can be ticketed for that.

    OJ,

Is that the camera mount on the top right hand side of the windshield? I like the peaceful environment in the videos.

I just realized that isn't a camera mount. What is that, if you don't mind me asking? Never mind, I figured it out after watching more of the video. I was interrupted by a period drama in which they talk of Wessex.

And they use a white line for the centerline whereas we use a yellow line to denote opposite traveling traffic. Here white lines may be crossed, solid yellow lines not. Could be bad news if one us Yanks is driving over there and forgets the difference and decides to cross the white broken line!

Crossing the broken line is OK. Crossing a solid white line is not. Here's a quick guide: http://www.drivingtesttips.biz/road-markings-lines.html

What you're seeing, wyliec, is the right hand mount of the X-creen Sport screen extension.
Parking facing oncoming traffic is an offense on a major road at night but OK during daylight hours and OK at all times in a lit residential area.

Cool Some really nice drone video of The Leas.....

.....Cliff in Folkestone which is one of the original 19th. Century seaside resorts.
With the advent of the railways, people from the nearby towns and cities could take
day trips to the coast....of course many of them had never seen the sea before!
The large buildings you can see were all purpose built as hotels in the late 19th./early 20th. century.
These would have been for the well-heeled and rich but a trip to the seaside was a new experience
for all! Sea bathing had been reputed to be an excellent health benefit and the bathing machine business was booming!
I have posted this elsewhere here but then I remembered this thread!!

For those who have not seen one this is a bathing machine: bathing-machines-195.jpg

    Cool CAMBER CASTLE

Found myself here the other day with no life left in my camera battery! Typical!!

So I've had a look around on the interweb and come up with a few links.

First is the Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camber_Castle

Second is a Google maps picture of the inside (click and drag to move around) : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...733694!6m1!1e1

Finally I found a video by the same guy from the post above which is very good:

Hope you all enjoy this.....Happy Easter!!

My husband and I spent a "MERRIE" afternoon at "The Dirty Duck Pub" in Stratford-Upon-Avon with a very "MERRIE" group of shop owners celebrating the simple fact that they had just closed up shop and were able to enjoy a beautiful sunny day......so we decided to celebrate the beautiful day and enjoy it with them!

Am enjoying your pictures and your personalized tours!

    But I have a question:
    (Actually: two of them!)
Why did they start filling that Castle in with dirt?
Is it an attempt to keep it from collapsing inward?

    Thanks!

From the Wikipedia entry:The four stirrup towers are two storeys tall, 6 by 6.2 metres (19.7 by 20.3 ft) across internally, with 0.8-metre-thick (2.6 ft) walls, flat at the front and curved at the back.[95] They would originally have been topped by firing platforms, with gunloops around the inside of the fortification enabling their occupants to fire into the courtyard if necessary.[95] The bastions built around the outside of the towers in the third phase of work are 19 metres (62.3 ft) wide internally and each extend 12 metres (39.4 ft) from their respective stirrup tower, with 3.6-metre-thick (12 ft) walls.[96] Most of the bastions had a single internal gun room with a robust gun deck on top, but the West Bastion was used as a kitchen and the interior was fitted with two circular ovens and a range for cooking.[97] The bastions would have been connected by a wall-walk and parapets, but these have since been lost.[98] The south stirrup tower and bastion remains partially buried as a result of the construction of the Rampire.

There ya go Bob! It also has to be remembered that when this castle was built it was on the coast and formed part of the coastal defence network. The land you can see to the south of the castle was reclaimed and is now a few feet above sea level.
