Default BajaRon Custom Heim Joint Links

I've been getting a lot of questions about my ongoing Heim Joint Link project. Believe me, I have not forgotten about this.

As usual it's taking much longer than it should. I have only so much control over the progress.

I visited the fabricator today and we are ALMOST ready. The links look good and we are just waiting for one more component to arrive. I should have them by the middle of next week.

I'm going to send a few sets out to some heavy hitters to be sure they are going to do the job before I start shipping them to everyone. I will email everyone on the Notification list as soon as these are ready for prime time.

If you would like to be on the official notification list please email me at fyredad@hotmail.com and you will be added to that list.

I greatly appreciate all the patience with my less than warp factor production process...

I'm confused. Is this another design, or just another lot ?

(I'm guessing that it's another lot of them... I don't recall seeing anything in here about a "version 2.0")

I am trying to kill a few birds with one stone.

The Chrome Moly links I have been making are a very good product. I am not trying to improve on function as the CM units are already overkill. I like overkill....

But there are 2 problems with the original Version 1.0.
1- They take a fair amount of time to assemble properly (and what other way is there?)
2- Component supply is spotty. I have not been able to get a major component since September. They will come back but I need a stable product supply line.

I could use an inferior component that would probably work. But I just don't like that idea.

    Enter Version 2.0
1- No assembly required (at least by me). These will come ready to ship.
2- Should be no supply issues (once I get them up and running).
3- Just as good (functionally) as Version 1.0 (I need to do a bit more testing to be sure this is the case)

Do I take it that there is no need to change out from the original ones to the latest version

Do I take it there is no reason to change out from Version 1.0 to Version 2.0 as there is no additional benefit in terms of performance and reliability (Just to put our minds at rests)

Ron, I have a question. I have a 2011RTS with Elkas, bajaron sway bar & Pitbull Shock relocators. I have been informed that the new links will adversely affect the handling of my bike. Ron, what exactly is the story behind the links and are they more that an upgrade to protect form link failure??

The new links will not be better. They will, however, be just as good and available instead of 'Out of Stock' all the time.

This is a very interesting perspective. I am not sure how someone could come to this conclusion about my custom Heim joint link sets. I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind this one.

Some people made up their own custom link sets with less than necessary articulation. It may be this is what is being described. My link sets have more than adequate articulation.

My custom link set will function exactly like the OEM links from BRP. If your OEM links are in good condition you will not be able to tell the difference.

    The reasons for my custom link sets (other than customer demand) are;
1- Heim Joint links are a wear item and like any wear item they will eventually need to be replaced
2- The OEM links are a composite plastic and subject to damage, either through stress or impact. The bottom of these plastic links hang down below any other suspended part on the front of the Spyder. The OEM skid plate does not offer any additional protection to the links. SpyderPops Bump Skid does offer some additional protection but they are still somewhat exposed and subject to road debris impact.
3- The epidemic of broken links on the 2013's and BRP temporarily pulling all supplies of this part created a big demand.
4- Many owners do not like the idea of a plastic part handling the stress of a sway bar.

My custom link sets being made from Chrom Moly (Version 1.0) and Billet Aluminum (Version 2.0) will last longer and eliminate breakage issues.

    I hope this helps.

How many people do you have on a waiting list?

Just wondering if it's gonna take 6 months to get these if not on the list?

I think Canadians can wait since they won't be riding for a while.

It won't take 6 months if you're not on the list. Some people don't visit Spyderlovers every day (what's up with that!? ) and an email works better for them. I also email a day or 2 before I give general notice here to give people on the list first shot.

Just to add why I want a set when they are available.

    1) I don't like plastic in this area! Road grime, ozone, time etc eventually deteriorates plastic! This is an important link to your suspension and I have seen pictures where the ring around one of the balls snapped! Probably due to the plastic getting brittle over time? Forgetting the 2013 issues, I have seen posts of older models breaking this link. Imagine being hundreds of miles away somewhere and your suspension is jacked due to a plastic part!

    2) Hitting something a breaking one. I think the metal links will be much more robust in this area. Not bullet proof but just better.

    3) It wont improve performance but it will improve "piece of mind". For the price we pay for stuff I think these links will be worth it. Ron, what's the price of the new ones?

Also in my opinion, if your going to get a sway bar, also get these and do the job all at once!

My 3 cents and this will be my next Baja Ron thing I buy.
