Tired of Looking at Black Trim
I finally got tired of looking at the unattractive black trim on my Spyder. Next to the chrome it just did not look dressy. Experimented with all sorts of ideas and vinyl. Finally I settled on and found the "right" carbon fiber that doesn't look like a sticker or decal added. Tested it out with all the love bugs we have here right now and they wiped right off. I like it a lot better than the bland old black trim. I thought I would share what it looks like with you guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lewD7...ature=youtu.be

I like it! Wish I was talented enough to do the same to my 12 Pearl White RT Ltd. Where did you find the "right" carbon fiber?

The 3M DiNOC is what I found to work the best. The color choices are standard colors. Not a lot of choices but I found that if it does not say 3M DiNOC then it is hard to make bends on curves on the plastic, not to mention it does not stick as well. Of course prep and making sure the surface is treated prior to application is crucial.

That has a super good look, very nice.

So how did you prep it to hold well?
Did all the pieces have to be wet sanded smooth?

I like how you used brown and black carbon fiber in the areas you did, very classy.

The first key is to make sure the surface is clean of any residue from the road and especially any armor all type products or vinyl dressings. A mixture of alcohol and water used multiple times will eventually make the surface ready and then 3m makes an adhesive promoter that must be worked into the surface. I guess the long answer to the question however is- no - there was no need to wet sand.

Thanks, didnt know if the surface had to be super smooth.
reading up a bit on it, it says its stable in sunlight about 4 years. I wonder how well clear coat would bond to it, because you can buy UV stable clearcoat and it would last much longer.

Sting,
A question on another subject, I installed the mini=vent on my Rt also, but it appears that you have some sort of seal around the bottom,if so,what material was used. thanks in advance for the reply

Are you talking about how did I attach the entire air scoop to the Spyder panel or the intake screen of the Vertika vent?
