    Default JL audio system installed

My brother had a local shop install the JL audio speaker pods, JL audio amp, volume control, and aux jack on his RS-S last Friday. System sounds very good but was pricey at $1400 with labor and all components. He still needs to add a phone mount but for now he just plugs in the aux jack and lays the phone between the windshield and dash. He also has a jack in the frunk so he can plug the phone into the 12v charger and plug into the amp at the same time.

I completely forgot to take a picture of the amp, but as you said takes up very little space.

I've really been thinking about adding this system to my Spyder. Would love to see pics.

I think $1400 installed is a good price, considering that the kit retails for about $1600 alone.

If I could find that price locally, I'd go for it.

    Default not water proof

i got caught in the rain twice and not issue... it's not like i was sitting in the rain.. i was moving. i will have to get picture from the front... gives the bike a different look... which is what i wanted.. every spyder class of spyder looks the same so i opted to do something different.

    Question front shot of fairing

as i was working on it. just purchased an amp to give the speakers a lil more umph!! Marine head unit but speakers are not... don't plan on ever going anywhere in a down pour and if there's a chance of rain i bring the cover for the bike so i never spent the extra money for marine speakers.

Those speaker pods looks as if they're going to offer up quite a bit more protection from the wind as well...

These are marine speakers so moisture shouldn't be an issue. Had it for about a year and spyder sits outside and no problems. These can take a lot of power so get the biggest DIGITAL(low electrical draw) amp you can/want to squeeze in the trunk.

You can get pods from jl audio direct for like $700, shipped and it comes with all necessary mounting hardwares and wires. Jl also makes small foot print digital amp and so does alpine. I am using eclipse amp, 150 true watts per channel and amp clips before speakers distorts.

It actually looks better from front with sorta jet air intake look but it does look like you have a big boom box from the rear...

Overall, very happy with price, looks and performance.

I was looking at the website for the Canadian shop that does the fairing mold for this and it got me to thinking could they alter the fairing to have a dvd/cd/GPS screen that is so common in newer cars these days. Is all of this necessary...no, of course not but how many "farkles" really are?

Good point! The fairing is all fiberglass so you can cut it as needed. The marine radio you see is very small so you should note there is very little room for large units on the "face" of the fairing and especially behind it. However, with some creative engineering, one might be able to install a flip-screen unit which would be very cool. I strongly considered it, but I have a serious dedication to using only waterproof electronics on the exposed areas of my Spyder. Nobody "plans" on getting caught in the rain, but IT HAPPENS!

Valid point about using only marine grade products. I am surprised that no one has come up with a marine grade system that does have the screen option.

Looks like a pretty cool unit but I believe it is too deep to install, unless you bump it out of the fairing several inches In fairness to the OP, we should continue this elsewhere...I think we have hi-jacked his thread...unintentional! My apologies!

Orange Monster, I think the JL system is awesome! I use JL on my boat and can attest to their quality build and rich sound. I was so close to buying that same system but was concerned about frunk space. Sounds like he did it without using too much storage area. Tell your bro he made a great choice...looks great and sounds badazz!
