Default Touring with an "08" GS

Anyone out touring with either a GS or any of the RS Spyders? Would love to hear and see pics of your setups.

I'm taking some mini-trips and planning on setting my GS up over the winter to do some longer trips up to a week at a time...

Have a '09 GS I tour with. If the weather is iffy, have a duffle bag holding cold weather gear I strap on top of the turtle shell.

Attached is a set up of the 08/GS I rode until the RT's came out. 23,500 trouble free miles. We had a pair--2008 and 2009. More pictures in the 2010 AK Gallery.

This is a pic of my 09 when I took off without much of a plan the first week of July. Ended up on the Dragon, Devils Triangle, Rattler, Snake, Cherahala Skyway, etc.

This set up was great but I upgraded the stock seat to a comfort seat upon my return. Even better now. *EDIT* Also added Baker air wings for more air or less, and Kuryakyn hand grips. Even more better now. *END EDIT*

The vent in that 25" shield is important for keeping the jiggling eyeballs to a minimum at high speed.

I also wont forget my saddlebag rain covers next time.

What rack set up do you have on your GS? I would like to add something similar to my ST-S..

I bought an Eddie Bauer bag that's waterproof and put 4 days worth of clothes in and strap it to my rear seat. I then put everything else I need into the frunk and have done a trip to SpyderFest and Spyders in the Redwoods with this setup without issue.

    Hi Doc!
I certainly wasn't meaning to discount your vast accumulation of miles...( )
But Jim's GS has been racking up his miles while riding double, and towing a trailer...

I've only had my Spyder since May and haven't been able to hit the road for a long trip, but have logged 1,600 local miles. My focus is on comfort with Rivco Driver Floorboards, Highway Pegs, Handlebar Risers, Mirror Extensions, Throttle Lock and an Air Hawk seat pad.

When I ride with my Harley buddies they want to stop and stretch every hour or so. I feel like I can go all day. I plan to add a BajaRon sway bar and a taller windshield next.

This is a great thread. I'm new to riding (Nov, 2012) but am on a 250cc scooter. My wife won't get on but she has expressed possibility in getting a spyder since sitting on one at a dealer. Anywho, I know one of these is in my future and would love to take some weekend and long distance trips solo or of course with my better half. This lets me know it can be done on an RS/GS model. Though, I do know with all "cra...stuff" my wife would bring, the RT is a better choice, still I like the sportier model. Sean BTW. I lurk quite a bit.

Here's my setup. I have found that I can put everything I need in my two hard bags and then put my rain gear and other riding essentials in the frunk! I love the hard side bags!

I have just turned 90,000 miles today on our Spyder (and all on one motor, Doc). Any way the pics. show how we used to travel before getting my 'Lil Caboose trailer. We were able with the Corbin bags and the trunk to pack enough clothes for a week by rolling the clothes very carefully...but no matter how careful we were after the clothes were worn they just didn't fit as well going back in! However the trailer just makes it so much easier to pack and actually carry suitcases and tools and still have enough room for the wife to do some shopping.

    Here are the pics.

In 2011, I did a 3,600 mile trip in 6 days on my 2008 GS. I had most of the Spyder Pops aftermarket products installed and had a pair of soft saddle bags. I did 1,160 in one day with no issues.
