    Default tire pressure

    evening everyone what air pressure do you run in your tires. looking at the manual i read 17 pounds in the front and 30 in the rear, did i read this right. they said the tires are made special for the spyder so i am just wondering if i read it right. THANKS

    Default Little checking..!!

    There are a lot of threads on tires, tire air pressure etc here you can read. You can start with the pressure suggested in the manual and on the bike ( on the swing arm left side) then play with it as you see fit. Depending on your ryding style, weather, weight (solo double, trailer, cargo, stock or after market tires etc.) you may want to adjust the pressure...in time you may see wear patterns indicating too much or to little as well..lots of variables...

    We run 18/20 lbs front and 28/30 lbs rear...

    Depends a bit on the model and year of Spyder. The RS seems to like around 20 F/28-30 R. The 2010-2012 RT does well around 17-18F/26-28 R. The 2013 RT and ST...and maybe the newer RS, likes a bit less in front 15-17. That's what owners seem to prefer. Start around these points and experiment to see what you and your Spyder like best. It costs little to nothing. Remember, recommended tire pressures are measured cold.

    Default our 13rt really likes

    20 in the fronts and 28 rears. Seems to tighten up the front, 3-5 psi is noticeable in the front...

    I run 17f/23r on my 2013 RT-S. Seems to work for me and my style of riding and the wear bars on rear tire don't show up as quickly. But, like I read experiment with them for the best for you.

    16 front, 20 rear..after running higher and wearing center tread out on 3 rear tires. Present Pirelli P4 with 4K show no discernable wear at 20 lb.

    Okay; so who's running pure nitrogen?
    18/25 in mine (only about 78% nitrogen though... )

    2013 RT
    19/28. Started with 16/30. The more pressure in the front seem to help the darting around. May lower the rear more if the wear shows more in the middle.


    Need to find me some of that 78% nitrogen.

    Pure nitrogen does not expand like our normal breathing air.(78% nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, Co2 and a few other things)

    LOL! I've found that breathing a 78% nitrogen mix is good for my health! The USAF has used nitrogen for years in aircraft tires - less pressure fluctuation from temperature changes and less leakage than compressed air. Nitrogen is a larger molecule than oxygen. The oxygen molecule actually leaks through the tire, over time. Compressed air is also fairly "wet" as there is water vapor in it. Nitrogen is dry due to how it is produced, and is also inert, where oxygen contributes to . . . (ready for it?) oxidation! Your metal rims will last longer, as will the metal in the valves, if you use 100% nitrogen. I am looking for someplace local that will fill my tires with 100% nitrogen. In the meantime, I'll stick with the 78% mix!

    It's one of the few items Wal Mart has that isn't made in China. Their air quality is too bad to use it for anything, including breathing.
