n00b question - 2 finger wave?
OK.... So the last 2 days commuting to work when a guy on a cycle passes me he always with the left hand gives me a 2 finger "howdy".
I think I get the idea. It's saying "Yo friend" or "Yo kindred spirit".
But where did it come from and true meaning?
I also noticed it in the BRP video.
A history lesson is in order maybe for a n00b like me
Thanks,
Bob

Which two fingers...?

In Jersey it's mostly the one finger wave...

Spyder riders give the three fingers wave like they do on the BRP video. Three wheels, three fingers.
Bikers give you a two finger wave. Two wheels, two fingers.
Unicycles, well you get the idea.

I use the two finger wave 'cause it signifies the twin cylinder engine. When I had my Gold Wing I waved with six fingers but I kept running off the road.

The single digit should never be considered as a greeting 😂 It is a very proud signal of the senders highest level of education. Some people think of it as a "IQ level. But that remains a unknown?

2 finger wave....= V TWIN

Don't know..!!
It's all a blurr, many times don't see how many fingers but always wave. Also noticed it has to be low under the bars..? Easy if you have ape hangers. If I see another spyder I wave like a mad man..thats rare..but whatever the reason it's nice to see they are friendly. You may not always get a wave back but it is cause they are scared to let go of the bars or are needing both hands so you get the nod..!!

I Nod my head because to me (IMHO Only) Two motorcycles going at Speed each taking a hand off One handlebar at the same time and Holding it out to the side while there passing each other Head On is Not a "Safety Orientated Activity?

When I got the 2 finger waves it was 2 wheelers passing me and they did not take their hand of the left grip. They kind of left their palm on the grip and put out two fingers (middle and index). Again this is why I asked this question as to the meaning.

This is a humerous article that attempts to qualify the hand wave.

Haven't seen anything but the "low wave" (hand out to the side of the L handle bar) around here for years. I have to confess I've never counted fingers.....................
-
Peace
For me, when I give 2 fingers, I'm giving the peace sign.

My understanding has always been that it's a low 2 finger wave to signal for the other rider to safe and keep 2 tires on the road. now on the spyder I throw the thumb out also for that third wheel.

Just noticed today that I'm giving the three finger wave - middle and index for the front wheels and thumb (straight up) for the fat rear one.............. hey, it's my way.

I've got a 1 finger wave but it's something most would laugh at..When I had my 2 wheeler accident I broke my middle finger and to this day it angles out 45 degrees and all they do is stare at it...)
