I did similar to yours but Put One running light in the middle and two Brighter Brake Only Led Stripes on each side and just Tapped (Posi taps) into the white ,orange and Black wires . (As Appropriate) Cost about $30.

God job! If you add a converter you can also get running and brake, which is also nice with constant visibility! I got 16 feet of lights for $11 on amazon. Comes with wires on both ends!

You can get to/take off the tail lights without taking the large black tupperware totally off, just let it hang down enough to get to the light screws.
