    Default Sequoyah Caverns

I have been thinking lately about visiting Sequoyah Caverns in NE Alabama. I got a notice on the TAGNet the other day that the owner's are closing the caverns to the public this coming September 3rd. They have been in operation for 49 years.

I contacted the owner to find out what the group rates would be? For 15 or more people $10.95 for adults and $5.95 for the kiddies.
Come from where ever you live and meet at the location for a tour. Afterwards we could head over to Scottsboro, AL for lunch at the Western Sizzlin.

After lunch there are many things to do. Rides in the hills, Unclaimed Baggage is near by. For those persons that are not afraid, there is the bat flight at Sauta Cave Preserve to experience!
No, they won't get into your hair.

A date I have come up with is August 3, 2013?

For a bit of my history, I was one of many that help map the cave for the owners back many decades ago. We got to go places in there that are off the tour. A cat had died in there and is fossilized into the floor. It was determined it was not a saber tooth kitty....not that old. You will want to bring a jacket or sweater as it's about 58°F in there year round.

If there is any interest, let me know?

Sent a note to both Larry and Greg. The date is not set in stone. Those optional dates are good for me also.

Sounds interesting. Is this a walking or crawling tour?

It's a walking tour. If you want crawling I can arrange that? Vertical, I can arrange that too. GA has the two deepest drops in a cave in the lower 48 states near LaFayette. There was a rescue there recently.

The date has been set to August 10, 2013. Meet at the parking lot around 10:30 am Central Time.
Then a ride to LaFayette, GA via GA136 from Trenton, GA for lunch. See the GA section here on SpyderLovers.

There is a charity event on July 27 and a request from those folks to have the trip in August.

Purple pin is location for the cave, lower left corner.

The time is getting closer and I have to put my Spyder in the shop because of transmission issues that started on the owner's event in Maggie Valley.

How many plan to attend this ride to Sequoyah Caverns?

    Thanks!

I might be able to ride, but it depends on what all I have going on. I have to work all day Sunday the 12th, so have a very short weekend. Too early to say at this point.

So the latest up date for the ride.

We meet at 10:30am Central time at Sequoyah Caverns parking lot. We do the tour of the cave. I'm expecting 20-30 people. The TVC-SRA has 14 people listed as coming. I have a couple that are listed as being from Vermont who are planning to attend. A bunch of Spyder owners from GA and I've invited non-rider friends to come also.

After the tour, we head up US11 to Trenton, GA to take GA136 over to LaFayette, GA for lunch at the Pizza Hut. They are expecting us sometime after 2pm Eastern time.

After we eat, everyone can head back home or take in the sights?

It has come to my attention that the choice of Pizza Hut for lunch is not pleasing to some folks. So I was sent a link from trip advisor for alternate places to eat in the LaFayette area. See the link below.

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...e_Georgia.html

I posted a request on the TAGNet for cavers to give me some ideas of places to eat around the area. I'll post a list on what they have suggested.

Despite the iffy weather, we had over 20 Spyder and some two wheelers show up for the cave tour today. Fun ride over to LaFayette for those who were on Spyders. I was stuck in my truck as the bike still in the shop.
