I ride out west from D.C. to a nice rural area west of Middleburg, Virginia. Nice open roads with long straights and fun twisties. A bit of a PITA to get to from my current home inside the Beltway, but once I'm there, I can spend all day back and forth on farm roads doing all my necessary, ummm, "testing."
(But in all seriousness: it's also been my "proving ground" when I need to tweak my Juicebox settings manually, usually around the changing seasons. Plenty of open space to go flat-out from a standing stop up to a very generous speed to test out performance in all the gears. Rinse, repeat ).
Silver 2010 RS SE5: Triple Play, Taillight, Brightsides, Fender Tips, Easy Risers; Evo Sway Bar; Airhawk R & Beadrider; latch springs; Grab-On grips; Crampbuster; 24" Madstad smoke windshield & deflectors; N-R round bag & soft saddlebags; BRP handlebar bag; Throttlemeister; Spyderpops Missing Air Dam & Air Mgmt System; Rivco driver & passenger boards & pegs; ISCI parking brake extension; Ultimate Midrider Seat w/both backrests, Fox Racing Shocks, Yoshi R-77 exhaust and a whole lotta love!

Ugh...I live in a flat, farming section of MI... The road to Hell is the twistiest one around...and it's 45 miles from here!
Number One: 2008 Yellow GS SM5. I love my Spyder.
Number Two: 2012 RT-S Limited (the poop colored RT) I still have Number One, but Some Girl made me buy Number Two...

I can remember when I was a kid, there was Grand Ol' Opry on the radio every Saturday night, but it didn't reach our house until Tuesday.
I have a nice isolated stretch of smooth straight blacktop about 1-1/4 miles long where I can rip to 100mph if I wanted to. And it's only about a mile and a half from home.

We also live way out in the boonies where we can basically test anywhere we want to without much worries about LEO opposition.
