Default The life that some will not understand

THE LIFE THAT SOME WILL NOT UNDERSTAND

I own a motorcycle because of a personal life choice.
One day when I am very old and I can’t ride anymore; it will be in my garage as a trophy of my memories. I hope it has 3 wheels so I can ride longer than my legs allow.

I have met people who taught me much because they have the same spirit.
I spoke with perfect strangers, yet never uttered a word.

I learned through gestures to communicate with other riders.
I have spent money that I did not have, I gave up many things, but
I have received wisdom from those before me and have given it freely to those who will ride long after I’m gone.

I get wet, I get cold, I have ridden through the heat with pants dripping from sweat,
I have been afraid, I fell, and I stood up, but also, I laughed out loud with the wind.
I spoke a thousand times with myself and God. Still do. I sang and shouted with joy like a madman, when only my bike could hear me. And yes ... sometimes I’ve cried.

I have seen wonderful places because of motorcycles.
I have made curves that even my friends would be proud of; other times I made curves full of terror that would make some riders poop their pants, including me.
I stopped many times to see the landscape and the beauty of God's creations.
I’ve gone out with frustrations inside and returned home with a feeling of absolute peace in my heart.

I've always known how dangerous it is, but fear will never control me.
Every time I go out on my ride I think about how wonderful she/he is.
My bike is not a means of transportation, but is a piece of iron with wheels, and a throttle that somehow has touched my very soul, this machine I am blessed with is part of who and what I am.

I’m not asking for anyone to understand this, some do and some don’t.
Just remember, if you love someone who rides, respect their choices & pray for their safe return home.

My wife bought a sign at a thrift store a few years ago and gave it to me. It says: You Never See A Motorcycle (Spyder to Us) Parked Outside A Psychiatrist’s Office. Non motorcycle people just don’t understand.

When asked why I like to ride, I reply "If you don't understand, I can't explain. It's something beyond words.". But this fits perfectly.

Being 76 with a bad heart this really meant a lot to me. Every time when I return from a ride I say "Thank you Jesus!" Thank you for sharing.

I hear what you’re saying. I don’t have a bad heart....I have another illness , I’m not 76, I’m 80. I’m not a religious man like many on here appear to be, but I do consider that every ride that I’m able to get home from without help has been an exceptionally good ride. Most of my rides now are in the 100 mile (160 km) range and are either just myself or myself and one other m/c. Life Is Good!

I just turned 81 and usually just ride to town and and back (about 30 miles). On nice days, I can always come up with a reason to go to town. It makes my whole day more enjoyable.

I was late to motorcycling, not starting until I was 40. I'm 80 now; and switching to 3 wheels from 2 has allowed me to keep riding when I might otherwise have considered giving it up. My grown kids don't really understand. They know that being a rider is very important to me. They don't really get it that it is an essential part of me, not just a fun hobby or sport. When I was a very young new Army Lieutenant, and at my first duty station in El Paso, TX, I rode a horse for the first time. I ended up spending a moderate amount of time on horseback, by myself, riding into the New Mexico desert north of El Paso. The sense of freedom on a strong horse, being self-contained, with that power under me and under my control was an amazing and empowering feeling. Riding a motorcycle, even a 3-wheeler, captures some of that exhilaration and completeness as a person. I know that my riding will not continue forever, having already lost the few riding friends that I had. I now ride alone, or with my wife as my passenger, and plan on doing so until the very end. I've often thought that riding out on a sunny day, on quiet country roads, and not seeing that 18-wheeler who missed a stop sign would be a far better way to leave this Earth than stuck full of tubes in a hospital or nursing home.
