    Default Oil Usage ?

I have the 2012 RT with only 3200 miles and all of a sudden it's using oil ! I have no leaks or drips under the bike so what's up ? Anyone else have this problem ? I check my oil one day and rode 100 the next day I checked it and was down almost 3/4 of a quart

    3/4 @ 100 miles doesn't sound right.......
It's all on how you are checking the oil, If you check it when the oil/engine isn't up to FULL operating temperature you'll think it's 3/4 low, And then if you add oil at that point it will be over filled, Which you really don't want...

I check it like we're supposed too, run for 30 seconds and then check it.

Are you running it for just 30 seconds when it's cold, Or after the oil is at full operating temp, Then let it idle 30 seconds, stop engine, Then with the dipstick screwed all the way in.....

That's strange indeed, I hope your not burning it away. Do you see excessive smoke out of your tail pipe?

Like one of the responders said "more art than science". That said somewhere in my wanderings the other day I saw mention of someone who had their dipstick marked as to where the oil should be in a cold engine. I think of course now I can't find the thread again, not even sure which forum it was in. "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."

    Default Best way..!!

I find that the best way to check your oil and be ready for the next ride is to check it when you pull into your drive. Engine is at running temp there will be no foam and if needed add oil and your set. Find the best way for yourself and see how it goes. If your 3/4 qt low you should be getting lights flashing..good luck..!!

Your supposed to run it for 30 seconds when it is at FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE otherwise you will get a 3/4 qt low reading on the dip stick. The manual is very specific about how to check the oil... no black magic needed.
