Just another day on the job as an Air Traffic Controller!
Do a Google search for N559DW for the rest of the story.
PS I get furloughed beginning next month thanks to sequestration!

The guy piloting that plane was one cool customer. Also the lady TC'er was certainly reassuring. Outstanding job by all concerned. Kept me hanging on my seat listening to the replay.

Put my headset on and listened to the whole thing. The guy stayed pretty calm, I'm sure that helped to calm the other passengers. All partys did a great job. Part of my job in the Air Force was ground/air accident investigation. Got to listen to a lot of tapes similar to this.
As to the sequester, i don't want to get booted so I'll keep my thoughts to myself, but have to agree with AKspyderman.

Impressive video.
As to the sequester and the political ramifications, whatever your position is, we the people elected these politicians.
We grew them in this country and then we elected them.
There is an old saying. People get the government they deserve.
Who's to blame ?
If it ain't broke, don't break it.

Just read the background on the story. He, his wife and 2 daughters were flying back home to Louisiana from Florida. The guy owned the plane and the pilot was hired to fly them back home. They were coming back from burying the owners younger brother. The story is on the Readers Digest website.

Thinks out loud
Timing?
Sorry to hear you're being furloughed. Lot's I could say, but it wouldn't change reality.
A special thanks for all you have done to keep flyers safe.
Listened all the way through....got a little concerned when he bled his air speed to 116 during his initial decent but he recovered nicely. All in all his previous experience paid off in spades. Both ATC'S did a fine job. The hand off went smooth too.
Hang in there Rando!

A friend of mine was an in flight air traffic controler during 911 on Long Island. There's more to the story than anybody knows so she said. Sorry about the furlough, my brother inlaw is going through the same with homeland security. Luckily he can step back into corrections.

Pretty interesting stuff. Sounded like the the guy flying was real happy to be on the ground.
Sorry to hear about the furlough. Just think about all those poor welfare recipients that won't be getting their checks either, or wait that's right they will be getting theirs. My wife is a court reporter and the state of Illinois gave her some additional unpaid vacation a couple years ago, doesn't make much sense to me. Quit paying people that generate tax revenue but continue to give money to people that don't. Hope they get this figured out so they don't make more of the productive members of society unproductive.

Being a recreational pilot myself, I was riveted to my seat listening to these transmissions. I kept visualizing what that pilot was seeing and doing throughout this entire event. The pilot and ATC's were awesome. Those men and women in the towers and on the radar screens keep all of us safe and happy each and every day. Hat's off them all!!
